Title: Coordinator of Youth Ministry and Confirmation Reports To: Director of Religious Education Supervises: Volunteers: Confirmation Small Group Leaders, Youth Ministry Leaders Schedule: Full-time – 40 hours per week, will include some evenings, weekends, and over nights FLSA Status: Non-ExemptBackground

Employment in and by the Roman Catholic Church (hereinafter Church) is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and the Church of Saint Peter in Forest Lake, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. This position does require that an employee be an active participating Catholic and it is expected that the employee will have an understanding of the rich tradition and doctrine of the Church and will uphold and enforce the teachings of the Church.
The responsibilities listed below are representative of the job and are not inclusive.
Objective:
- To work with the Pastor, Director of Religious Education, other staff, and ministry leaders to hand on the deposit of faith to the parishioners of Saint Peter Catholic Church.
- To oversee and develop ministries for 5th – 12th grade youth of the parish that helps our young men and women grow into confident Catholic Leaders.
- To coordinate comprehensive, year-round middle school and high school youth ministry programs.
- To coordinate the Confirmation program.
- To embrace the role as a disciple of Christ and to create programs in which the youth can personally encounter Him.
General Responsibilities:
- Be present where needed, ready to work, and on time for all scheduled hours, as needed, to meet the responsibilities of the position. This includes recognizing when situations require more effort, putting in more time as needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance.
- Maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with all youth, parents, parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
- Ensure appropriate confidentiality in all matters.
- Attendance at and participation in some Parish Activities, including the Parish Fall Festival as required.
- Work cooperatively and professionally with all staff members to ensure that the Pastor’s Vision and the Mission of the Parish are fulfilled.
- Attend and be prepared for all required staff meetings and all-staff days.
- Attend related training and seminars provided by the Archdiocese or the parish.
- Foster healthy working relationships with peers in the field through the sharing of ideas and skills, within deaneries, parishes, and archdiocese.
- Ensure adherence to all Safe Environment rules, guidelines, and requirements from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, such as permission forms for offsite events, driver requirements, student curriculum, etc.
- Must be Essential 3 compliant on first day of employment as required by Archdiocese.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Youth Ministry:
- To oversee and develop the youth ministry programs for 5th through 12th grade youth of Saint Peters to grow in knowledge and love of Christ and His Church. To invite and empower parents, encouraging them in their vocation as the primary educators of their children.
- Be visible to the youth and adults in the greater community.
- Plan, coordinate, and promote middle school and high school youth programs which may include:
- Retreats
- Youth Conferences
- Extreme Faith Camp
- Mission Trip
- Youth group activities (year-round, typically Wednesdays)
- Fundraising events
- Bible Study Groups
- Fundraising events
- Ensure and oversee the supervision of youth at all youth events.
- Recruit, equip, train, and supervise volunteers for all youth ministry events.
- Develop intentional discipleship among youth and young adults.
- Vocations: Exploration and Awareness Opportunities.
- Provide vocation exploration opportunities for 9-12 grade youth.
- Collaboratively work with the Associate Pastor for ways to offer vocation awareness opportunities.
- Reach out to local orders or clergy to speak at youth events.
- Accompany youth, as needed, to Archdiocesan vocation events (i.e., Miriam Dinner, St Andrew Dinner)
- Communicate with leaders and participants and promote youth events through various media, which may include:
- Flocknote
- Parish Bulletin
- Website
- Social media outlets
- Bulletin boards
Confirmation
Coordinate the format for the Confirmation Program, in consultation with and the approval of the Director of Religious Education and the Pastor.
- Annually continue to develop and evaluate the Confirmation formation program.
- Offer orientation for parents and candidates.
- Coordinate the implementation of the curriculum approved by the Pastor
- Teach appropriate topics and facilitate meetings as determined on yearly schedule.
- Contact, arrange for and confirm any speakers for evening topics, ensuring that these speakers are teaching the faith in accordance with Scripture and the Teaching Magisterium of the Church.
- Provide training and support for the small group leaders as needed.
- Compile resources for candidates and small group leaders.
- Work with the Director of Religious Education and Director of Stewardship/Volunteer Ministry on recruitment of volunteers to be involved in the Confirmation Program.
- Communicate to families and the parish regarding the Confirmation Formation Program, including:
- Provide a yearly calendar of events for staff, parents and candidates
- Make regular and consistent communication with the parents, candidates, small group leaders, sponsors and the parishioners. This may include:
- Flocknote
- Parish Bulletin
- Website
- Social media outlets
- Bulletin boards
Administrative Responsibilities
- Implement all applicable Archdiocesan and parish policies including:
- E3 Certification for all volunteers
- Proper levels of supervision for minors
- Social Media Use
- Mandated reporting
- Catholic Mutual Policies
- Permission slips
- Confidentiality
- Fundraising
- Ensure that all educational opportunities, speakers and activities are consistent with the values of the Catholic Church, her teaching and morality.
- Manage and monitor budget, purchasing, reimbursements, and ordering.
- Work with the parish process for budgeting, calendaring, employment policies, etc.
- Maintain orderly files and records of both programs and individuals as appropriate.
Professional Growth and Development
- Attend seminars, workshops, as appropriate and develop relationships with Archdiocesan representatives and other in youth ministry and Confirmation programs as a means of obtaining beneficial information for the betterment of Saint Peter’s Parish.
- Maintain contact with peers and gain insights from mentors.
- Participate in support networks
Other
Other duties, projects, and assignments as assigned by the Pastor, Director of Religious Education, or Parish Business Administrator.
Qualifications:
- Active participating member of the Catholic Faith required. Must be accepting of the teaching of the Church and a member in good standing. Ability to lead a life of integrity and morality, following the teachings of the Church.
- A thorough understanding of the Catholic Faith and the ability to uphold and enforce the practices, traditions, teachings, and doctrine of the Catholic faith without reservation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Ministry, Religious Education, Theology, Secondary Education, or related experience preferred.
- Experience working with middle school and high school youth, Confirmation, and/or religious education preferred.
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively with Pastor, Parochial Vicar, Parish Business Administrator, Director of Religious Education, Staff members and parishioners.
- Volunteer management skills, including recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating.
- Excellent communication, technology and organizational skills.
- Must have proficiency in Word and Excel
Mental Demands:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Enjoys working with young people and has an aptitude for it.
- Ability to pray in a public setting.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work without supervision, but obtain direction when needed.
- Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to work a consistent weekly schedule, 40 hours per week, while also working evenings and weekends as the role demands.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time; ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to bend and stoop 10% of the workday
- Must be able to keyboard
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs.
