Description

Why You’ll Love This Role

If you enjoy working with your hands, solving problems, and taking pride in keeping buildings and grounds safe, functional, and welcoming, this could be a great fit.

Our PT Weekday Maintenance position helps care for our church, school, parish office, and surrounding grounds. No two days will look exactly the same—you may make a repair, troubleshoot a building issue, work with a contractor, prepare spaces for an event, or help maintain the grounds.

This is a part-time weekday position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Approximately six hours each week are dedicated to school needs, with all work direction and supervision provided by the parish.

Regular Schedule:

  • Monday: 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (8 hours, with a 30-minute lunch)
  • Tuesday: 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (6.5 hours, with a 30-minute lunch)
  • Thursday: 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (6.5 hours, with a 30-minute lunch)

Some evening or weekend hours may be needed with advance notice.

What You’d Do

You’ll help keep our campus safe, functional, and well maintained by:

  • Completing basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and equipment repairs.
  • Monitoring and helping maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevator, boiler, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems.
  • Performing routine preventive maintenance and keeping equipment in good working condition.
  • Identifying facility needs and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and volunteers when specialized work is required.
  • Assisting with cleaning and custodial duties as needed.
  • Maintaining campus grounds, including snow removal and salting, lawn care, trimming, weed whipping, and other seasonal work.
  • Assisting with setup, cleanup, and facility needs for parish and school events.
  • Working with the Campus Manager on facility maintenance and long-term planning.
  • Following OSHA guidelines and appropriate safety practices when using tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Communicating with parish leadership about maintenance needs, projects, and priorities.
  • Attending required Archdiocesan training and assisting with other campus maintenance needs as they arise.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, hands-on, and comfortable taking initiative. You take pride in doing quality work and can see what needs to be done and follow through.

You’re able to work independently while also communicating and working well with staff, parishioners, volunteers, vendors, and contractors. You can manage multiple priorities, solve problems with practical and cost-conscious solutions, and recognize when a project requires professional assistance.

Most importantly, you’ll help us maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-cared-for campus for our parish and school community.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or similar hands-on work.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Comfortable using tools and completing minor building and equipment repairs.
  • Knowledge of basic safety practices and ability to recognize unsafe conditions.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional relationships.
  • Supportive of the mission and values of the parish, school, and Catholic Church.
  • Able to move throughout the campus, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds using proper technique.
  • Able to successfully complete a pre-employment physical, as required.

Working for the Catholic Church

Employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Catholic Church and in accordance with the faith, morals, and laws of the Church and the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Applicants are not required to be practicing Catholics.

Application Instructions
