Description
Saint Agnes School seeks a talented and dedicated Musical Director to join our school community. Rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition and animated by the sacramental life, Saint Agnes forms students through a rich integration of faith and reason. The Musical Director contributes to this mission by bringing an overall artistic vision to life, conducting musical rehearsals, and leading a creative team to put on the annual Spring Musical, cultivating students’ artistic talents, character formation, and appreciation for beauty through musical theater.
The ideal candidate is a skilled theater artist and educator who values and produces both excellence and joy in theater performance. He or she seeks to develop in students discipline, excellence, and an appreciation for musical theater within a liberal arts education.
Position Overview
The Musical Director is responsible for casting, directing, and executing the Spring Musical. The role includes establishing the overarching artistic vision, directing principal and ensemble rehearsals, and collaborating closely with the production team, vocal/music directors, choreographers, and technical crew to prepare students for performances that reflect both technical proficiency and artistic expression.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish and articulate a unified artistic vision for the Spring Musical
• Select appropriate show material and high-quality artistic elements that align with school standards
• Cast, schedule, and run engaging, structured rehearsals (typically weekday evenings) for high school students
• Provide instruction in acting, vocal delivery, stage movement, and character development
• Collaborate closely with a Theater Coordinator/Production Manager in the recruitment of a creative / production team (e.g. Music Director, Vocal Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Designers/Technicians, Children’s Chorus Director, etc.)
• Prepare and lead students and the creative team through tech week, dress rehearsals, and public performances that demonstrate excellence and artistry
• Communicate professionally and effectively with parents, cast members, and maintain strong relationships within the school community
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Music, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred
• Practicing Catholic preferred
• Experience directing musical theater productions at the high school or collegiate level preferred
• Strong background in script analysis, staging, vocal execution, and theater history
• Ability to connect with students and develop their artistic abilities across a range of skill levels
• Demonstrated ability to program and lead high-quality, age-appropriate theatrical productions
