Description

The Communications Coordinator aligns parishioners, volunteers, and staff with the mission and vision of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with a view toward evangelizing the larger community around us for Christ. Duties include, but are not limited to, developing, implementing, and maintaining the parish’s communications channels, facilitating engagement between individuals/groups and parish activities, marketing Saint Rose beyond the parish, and creating printed and digital content for publication and display.

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

FLSA: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Pastor
Provides Work Direction To: None
Receives Work Direction From: Pastor and Staff
FTE: Part-Time (without benefits)
Schedule: 24 hours per week

Primarily during parish center hours. Flexible schedule with opportunities to work from home. Occasional evening or weekend hours are necessary.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Employment in and by the Catholic Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, nor can it embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.

It is required that this employee be a practicing Catholic and have a working knowledge of the liturgical calendar and the rhythm and workflow of the liturgical year. It is expected that all employees respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices.

I. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities listed below are representative of the position and are not all-inclusive. They are considered essential for the successful completion of this position.

II. GENERAL COMMUNICATION

  1. Develop and implement the parish Communications Plan in keeping with the parish mission and vision, in collaboration with the Pastor and parish staff.
  2. Distribute the annual Communications Plan to staff and volunteer team leads.
  3. Coordinate the development and production of publicity within and outside of the parish with the goal of consistent branding and messaging to all audiences.
  4. Collaborate with the Business Administrator and other staff to develop the parish annual report.
  5. Develop, implement, and maintain communication interfaces for use by staff, parishioners, and volunteers.
  6. Prepare news releases, advertisements, and other appropriate forms of publicity to external parish sources and audiences through relationships with local news media, neighboring churches, and other target audiences.
  7. Create written, digital, photo, and audio/video media for media channels.
  8. Ensure that special events are recorded and disseminated in accordance with the Communications Plan and as directed by the Pastor and Directors.

III. PRINTED COMMUNICATION

  1. Design, prepare, and print materials for events and advertisements.
  2. Maintain the public information areas in the church.
  3. Produce, distribute, and monitor/enforce the Parish Branding and Style Guide.

IV. DIGITAL MEDIA, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY

  1. Lead creative development and strategy for, as well as maintain, the parish website and livestream platform.
  2. Design, implement, and maintain parish social media channels, including Facebook, Flocknote, YouTube, and any additional platforms.
  3. Generate valuable and fresh content for the parish website and social media channels.
  4. Explore new opportunities in social media and technology to communicate with parishioners and other target audiences to achieve maximum benefits to Saint Rose of Lima’s communications.
  5. Implement and monitor compliance with the Acceptable Use and Responsibility Policy for Electronic Communications.
  6. Develop, implement, and monitor compliance with the parish’s Social Media Policy.
  7. Maintain user databases with up-to-date information.
  8. Create slide decks for the church’s projection screens for events and weekend liturgies.
  9. Produce video content or arrange for videographers and editors to create video content as needed.
  10. Photograph or arrange for photographers to create image content as needed.
  11. Organize and supplement the parish’s Cloud Media Library.

V. ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Attend weekly staff meetings.
  2. Research and understand analytics to develop strategy, track campaigns, and understand trends.
  3. Oversee the Livestream Team and the Projectionist Team.
  4. Prepare the annual marketing and communications budget with support from the Business Administrator.
  5. Manage marketing and communications expenses according to the approved budget.
  6. Assist with proofreading and editing written materials at the request of the Pastor or Directors.
  7. Design and distribute employee name tags and business cards.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Passion for advancing the Kingdom of God and professionalism befitting its ambassador.
  • Experience including desktop publishing, graphic design, website development, and/or social media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent technology and media skills.
  • Highly self-directed with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new digital technology and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic faith and terminology.
  • Understanding of applications and platforms required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, complete VIRTUS safe environment training, and adhere to the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct for Church Personnel.
