Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ECFL (Early Catholic Family Life) for children and parents age 0-6
- Select 8 weeks during the academic year to run program-one 1.5-2 hour class per week
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers running the program. Could also be run by the coordinator.
- Order supplies as needed
- Set up and clean up classroom before and after each session
- Maintain registration, attendance and payment records for participants in program
Children’s Liturgy of the Word – only during academic year
- Organize and recruit catechists for weekly event
- Provide materials and schedule for catechists
- Lead session once per month
Grade 1 - Confirmation Program
- Recruit, train and supervise catechists, assistant catechists, and substitutes for program.
- Facilitate one catechist in-service session during year
- Set calendar for catechetical programs and events
- Select and order catechetical materials
- Communicate weekly with families in program
- Implement and coordinate family nights throughout year, with the support from Parish Office and in alignment with Director of Discipleship and Evangelization
- Maintain registration, attendance and payment records for participants in program
- Prepare budget in conjunction with Business Administrator
- Coordinate the preparation process for the sacrament of Confirmation, including curriculum development, parent meetings, and retreats.
- Serve as a liaison between the parish, parents, and candidates for Confirmation, providing regular communication and support throughout the preparation process.
- Stay informed about trends and best practices in Catholic youth ministry and Confirmation preparation, incorporating relevant insights into program development.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and sacramental preparation progress for youth ministry and Confirmation programs.
- Plan, order, and prepare dinner Wednesday’s alongside the Food Ministry. Coordinate volunteers for kitchen clean up.
First Communion and First Reconciliation
- Develop and coordinate First Communion Retreat, First Reconciliation Retreat (should include coordinating with Pastor to celebrate the sacrament), and Parent Meeting
- Update sacramental records
- Coordinate First Communion Mass on the first Sunday in May
Youth Ministry Program
- Develop and implement a comprehensive youth ministry program that fosters spiritual growth, community building, and service among young people.
- Plan and coordinate regular youth gatherings, retreats, and events that engage and inspire participants such as:
- a. Implement summer programming including in/out of country service trips (parish has history with Guatemala), Summer stretch, Extreme Faith Camp (or Damascus Summer Camp)
- b. Plan all retreats, lock-ins, service projects, mission trips and activities/social events and create a calendar of specific opportunities and offerings.
- Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers to assist with youth ministry activities and events.
- Collaborate with other parish ministries and organizations to integrate youth into the broader faith community, i.e. programing for high-school youth ministries, OLL school youth ministry
- Organize and lead service projects and outreach initiatives that empower youth to live out their faith in action.
- Ensure adherence to Safe Environment Guidelines
Vacation Bible School
- Recruit a volunteer or two to (or propose hiring a teacher for a week)
- Select and order materials for program
- Select activities for the one-week (5-day) event
- Promote event
- Register participants and collect fees
- Order supplies for all participants
- Recruit and supervise 50+ volunteers for event
- Coordinate set-up and clean-up
- And/or possibly coordinate a Totus Tuus team for a week at another time in the summer.
Protection of Children and Youth
- Ensure proper Safe Environment training and documentation for Faith formation volunteers with Virtus Training coordinator.
- Ensure students receive Virtus training and documentation to Virtus Training coordinator.
Miscellaneous
- Help establish a Family Faith Program to plan and implement multigenerational faith formation so that parents can teach their children at home.
- Participate in Diocesan, Deanery, and Parish Staff Meetings
- Maintain Bulletin Board outside of Faith Formation Office
- Maintain supply inventory
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (in theology, ministry, education, or a related field)
- Strong understanding of Catholic theology, teachings, and sacramental preparation.
- Passion for working with youth and helping them grow in their faith.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to youth, parents, and volunteers.
- Ability to plan and execute engaging and age-appropriate activities and events.
- Leadership abilities, with the capacity to recruit, train, and empower volunteers.
- Creative problem-solving abilities and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
- Membership in good standing with a Catholic faith community.
- Available Wednesday Evenings during the school year and Weekends as needed for retreats
- Flexible work, MUST b e present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth ministry, Confirmation and or faith formation preparation.
- Youth teaching experience
- Teamwork in visioning and creating a commitment to a shared plan through implementation.
- Evangelism relevant experience – I.E. National Evangelization Teams (NET) staff, Fellowship of Catholic University Student (FOCCUS) staff, etc.
