Primary Function (Purpose of Position):
A DeLaSalle High School English teacher will have a strong background in English and American literature, a passion for education, and the ability to inspire high school students. This position involves fostering a positive learning environment across both 9th and 11th-grade courses. Through direct instruction and essay writing, the instructor will help students improve their grammar and mechanics while preparing them for college-level coursework.

Representative Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement an engaging and comprehensive lesson plans that align with state and national standards.
- Create lesson plans that use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance learning experiences.
2. Student Assessment:
- Evaluate and assess student work, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and understanding.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with students, parents, and school administration.
3. Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and active learning.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and productive learning atmosphere.
- Enforce classroom rules and expectations to create a respectful and productive learning atmosphere.
4. Professional Development and Collaboration:
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in English education and standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, ideas, and strategies for improving student outcomes.
- Engage in school-wide initiatives and contribute to the overall mission and vision of the broader school community.
5. Support and Guidance:
- Provide academic support and guidance to students, including extra help sessions, tutoring, and career readiness.
- Encourage and support student involvement in extracurricular activities such as science clubs, fairs, and competitions.

- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Works in such a manner to provide positive and timely communication with students and parents while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to collaborate with and support other staff as directed.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
- Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission of DeLaSalle High School.
- Attend all staff meetings as required.
- Able to work 40+ hours a week or whatever is required – including occasional weekend and evening work.
- Ability to lift and move using proper techniques up to and including 25 pounds.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English Studies, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Teaching certification.
- Proven experience teaching high school English, with a thorough understanding of curriculum and exam requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Passion for fostering creativity and a love for working with high school students.
- Experience in organizing art exhibitions or showcases is a plus.
