Job Title: Facilities and Grounds Coordinator

FLSA: Hourly Non – Exempt

Wage: $18-$20/hour

Direct Reports: None

Schedule: Part Time 10 -15 hrs./wk. (evenings, variable summer, weekends as required)

Receives Work Direction From: Pastor, Parish Business Administrator

Provides Work Direction To: Volunteers

Job Purpose

The Facilities Custodian ensures the cleanliness, maintenance and security of parish facilities, supporting the mission of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church. This position involves custodial duties, preventative maintenance and event setup and takedown, while providing a welcoming and safe environment for parishioners, staff and visitors.

General Responsibilities

Employment in and by the Church is distinct from secular employment. Church employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the mission and purpose of the Church. Public behavior must align with Church teachings, morals and laws, as well as those of the Archdiocese, to avoid causing scandal or embarrassment. Employees are required to respect Catholic doctrine and practices.

Representative Responsibilities

  • Attendance and Readiness: Be present and prepared for all scheduled hours. Recognize when additional effort is required, ensuring responsibilities are met on time and setting an example of punctuality and dedication.
  • Team Environment: Help create a productive workplace characterized by harmony, good morale, effective communication and cooperative teamwork.
  • Confidentiality: Ensure appropriate confidentiality in all parish matters.
  • Standards: Support and implement policies from the Church of St. Katharine Drexel, the Archdiocese and federal/state laws. Perform responsibilities according to moral, ethical, legal and financial standards.
  • Volunteer Safety Requirements: Ensure all volunteers complete Volunteer Waiver Form.
  • Attend all staff meetings.

Key Responsibilities Facilities Maintenance

  • Conduct routine property inspections to identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, including painting, cleaning, plumbing and minor electrical work.
  • Check church bathrooms for weekend use. Restock all paper goods and soap.
  • Repair or replace faulty equipment and components.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all areas meet safety and hygiene standards.
  • Perform weekly walkthroughs to ensure building security and address maintenance issues.
  • Monthly check AED for battery and operation status. Report results to Parish Business Administrator.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance checks and schedules for equipment and facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance.
  • Assist with event setup and takedown as requested.
  • Coordinate volunteers to assist with various maintenance, custodial, and ground keeping tasks.
  • Turn outside water supply on in the spring and off in the fall. Adjust the heat controls seasonally for the front entryway and back storage room.

Custodial Duties

  • Recruit, train and schedule cleaning volunteers to ensure building is kept neat and orderly.
  • Monitor trash, recycling and organic collection bins are emptied and ready for all events and weekend hospitality. Check dumpsters to ensure all cardboard is flattened and all waste is in proper dumpster.
  • Assist with outdoor maintenance as needed, including lawn care, landscaping and snow removal, based on seasonal requirements.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, ensuring minimal disruption to parish operations.

Event Support

  • Set up and take down furniture and equipment for parish events when requested.
  • Assist with logistics and on-site needs during large parish functions.

Vendor Coordination

  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors to address facility needs and ensure timely task completion.
  • Manage follow-ups on critical repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.

Safety and Compliance

  • Report safety hazards and maintenance concerns to the Parish Business Administrator.
  • Adhere to Archdiocesan and parish policies, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Participate in annual training sessions, including annual Catholic Mutual Insurance Seminar. Ensure proper use of equipment and materials by all volunteers.

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, parishioners and vendors.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
  • Maintain professionalism in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
