Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Respond to pastoral needs of a wide demographic of parishioners and families of St. John’s, especially the ill, the dying, the bereaved and the aged. Develop and manage pastoral ministry programs and events in accordance with the parish mission.

PASTORAL CARE:

  • Organize and provide pastoral care for the homebound/sick of the parish, those in need of care and spiritual care referrals.
  • Arrange for Mass at Mayfield/Garden Terrace and Gable Pines each month.
  • Develop and implement programs that foster spiritual growth and holistic wellness in conjunction with other staff.
  • Facilitate pastoral care for parishioners who are homebound, hospitalized, or who reside in care facilities or senior housing.
  • Recruit, train and supervise pastoral ministry volunteers: Homebound/Hospital/Care Center Ministry; Prayer Line; Prayer Shawl
  • Make regular and emergency pastoral care visits.
  • Respond to pastoral emergency calls in conjunction with Pastor.
  • Recruit, train and coordinate visits of Extraordinary Ministers to all Catholics hospitalized at St. John’s Hospital with the Hospital’s spiritual care office.
  • Ensure all volunteers are E3 compliant.
  • Coordinate with Pastor spiritual care for residents of health care or senior care facilities within our parish boundaries including Communion services, Mass in the facility, Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation, as needed.
  • Collaborate with Pastor and Director of Music to coordinate annual All Souls Mass and Anointing Mass.
  • Write a regular pastoral ministry column for the Sunday church bulletin.
  • Maintain parish prayer list for Sunday Mass.
  • Maintain Pastoral records.

OUTREACH MINISTRY:

  • Support outreach ministries of the parish.
  • Connect parishioners and persons-in-need to community resources.
  • Liaison to Christian Service Committee, Culture of Life Committee, St. Anne, and Prayer Shawl Ministry.
  • Promote 40 Days for Life campaign.
  • Support and maintain monthly food collection (2 times per month).
  • Facilitate second collection grant process with Pastor to determine distribution.
  • Coordinate and manage annual Giving Tree.

FUNERAL MINISTRY:

  • Coordinate funeral planning with Pastor.
  • Schedule visitation, funeral Mass, funeral lunch, and burial.
  • Parish contact at funeral to ensure visitation and church are ready, readings, and prayers of the faithful are prepared.
  • As needed, act as Sacristan for the funeral Mass.
  • Provide backup supervision and training for altar servers and luncheon volunteers.
  • Oversee stock of kitchen supplies for luncheons and other events.

OTHER:

  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Facilitate prayer network and prayers of the faithful.
  • Maintain membership in a professional organization and informal networking groups and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and operate within department budget with assistance from business administrator.

Qualifications

Bachler’s degree or master’s degree in Pastoral Studies, Theology, or related field

3-5 years experience in Pastoral Ministry or a relevant field

Possess valid driver’s license, required

A commitment to the mission of St. John the Evangelist Church

Pass Archdiocesan background check and complete VIRTUS

Able to operate a computer, printer, software programs and office equipment

Enthusiastic leader with a positive attitude

 This is a full-time position with a salary range of $50,000-$60,000 depending on experience
