Description
Position Summary:
The person in this position works with the director in discerning, communicating, and implementing the vision of youth discipleship in the Archdiocese. This person will lead and direct the department of youth discipleship within the Office of Discipleship and Evangelization by mentoring youth discipleship leaders to help equip parishes and to strengthen the youth discipleship in the Archdiocese.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Investigates and discerns with the Director how the Archdiocese can best prepare, strengthen, and support youth discipleship in the Archdiocese.
- Advise the Director on youth discipleship and related topics.
- Leads and directs the department of youth discipleship within the Office of Discipleship and Evangelization.
- Oversight of all Archdiocesan youth events.
- Supervise youth staff in day-to-day operations and events.
- Supervise the implementation of several mission-focused events by performing tasks including planning, MCing, hiring speakers, promotion, finances, and correspondence. Events include but are not limited to:
- Summits
- Vicariate Meetings
- Youth Minister Retreats
- March for Life
- Works closely with a team of veteran youth ministers to help accomplish ministry goals.
- Provides pastoral care and support to youth ministry leaders, including the mentorship program.
- Assists parishes in growing extreme faith camp.
- Assist priests on youth ministry related topics.
- Works closely with the Catholic Service Appeal regarding youth ministry.
- Builds and maintains relationships with parish and partner organization leaders.
- Creates and maintains databases of youth formation/ministry coordinators, retreat coordinators and attendees, and available opportunities throughout the Archdiocese and beyond.
- Helps foster vocations and discernment throughout the Archdiocese.
- Assists parishes in following safe environment standards.
- Communicates regularly with constituents via email and phone.
Qualifications
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Must be a practicing Catholic who possesses thorough knowledge of and respect for Catholic Church teachings and has a faithful personal prayer life;
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Ability to find creative solutions to challenging problems
- Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment and initiative;
- Ability to interact effectively with a variety of demographics;
- Ability to work in collaboration with others;
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Must have excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Must have public speaking skills.
- Must have strong relational and pastoral skills.
- Must be self-motivated and passionate about our ministry.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must be diplomatic, tactful and discreet especially when dealing with confidential matters;
- Must be well-organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Must be available to work occasional weekends and some evenings.
Job Qualifications: (Education and Experience):
- BA / MA preferred in related field;
- Three to five years of experience in a parish, school, or ministry in areas of marriage, family, youth, evangelization, education or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
