Independent Contractor | Minnesota
The Catholic Schools Center of Excellence (CSCOE) is seeking one or two experienced educators to serve as part-time Thinking Math Coaches. We are looking for candidates located throughout the state and would welcome candidates living in northern or southern Minnesota. Position Overview
Thinking Math Coaches partner with Catholic school educators to strengthen mathematics instruction, build teacher confidence, and support engaging, research-based learning experiences for students.
Each coach typically supports three to four schools, visiting each school approximately once per month throughout the academic year. Coaching is practical, supportive, and rooted in best practices in mathematics classroom instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct monthly coaching visits at assigned Catholic schools
- Build collaborative, trusting relationships with teachers and school leaders
- Observe mathematics instruction and provide constructive, actionable feedback
- Model effective instructional practices through classroom demonstrations
- Co-teach lessons alongside classroom teachers
- Facilitate coaching conversations and teacher reflection
- Support strategies that strengthen number sense, mathematical discourse, academic vocabulary, problem-solving, and student engagement
- Participate in CSCOE-provided training and ongoing coach collaboration
- Communicate regularly with the CSCOE Director of STEM Excellence regarding school progress and support needs.
Training, Travel, and Schedule
- CSCOE provides training, coaching resources, and ongoing support.
- All approved travel expenses are reimbursed.
- Coaches generally serve three to four schools.
- School visits are typically scheduled during the school day.
- The schedule offers flexibility and is coordinated with assigned schools.
- This is a part-time independent contractor position.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Successful experience teaching mathematics at the elementary or middle school level
- A strong understanding of effective, research-based mathematics instruction
- Experience in instructional coaching, mentoring, professional learning, or teacher leadership
- The ability to model mathematics instruction confidently in K–8 classrooms
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
- A collaborative and encouraging coaching approach
- Respect for and willingness to support the mission of Catholic education
- The ability to travel to assigned schools approximately once per month
