Middle School Literature & ELA Teacher (2026/27 School Year)

Frassati Catholic Academy (FCA) in White Bear Lake, Minnesota is seeking a Middle School Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-27 school year.

It’s an exciting time at FCA: We are entering our second decade of forming children according to a Catholic vision; and we are full of gratitude for the recent canonization of our patron, Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati.

We know that our Catholic worldview is increasingly divergent from that of the common mentality, and the time has come for us to be clearer and more explicit about who we are and what we are attempting to do as a Catholic school. At FCA, we aim to be a community of learners, united by our common belonging to Christ, who is present in the Church. We seek to live an authentically Catholic culture, born from our continual conversion and adherence to Christ. We aim to initiate students into the great story of salvation, and truthfully introduce them to the whole of reality. We seek to form them and assist them in locating themselves in God’s great story, in order to give themselves over to Him and thereby achieve fulfillment.

We have a clear sense of purpose and direction from our leadership at FCA. We are a part of the history and tradition of both St. Mary of the Lake, and St. Pius X parishes in White Bear Lake. Literature & ELA Teacher Responsibilities:

• Present literature as a way to explore the human condition through the light of faith — guiding students to discover truth, beauty, and goodness in the written word and to recognize God’s presence in the stories we tell.
• Coach writing as a means to hone one's thought.
• Teach spelling, grammar, logic, and speaking.
• Integrate the practice of academic skills, like using planners, keeping binders and notebooks, how to research and write papers of various kinds.
• Form students in the art of language — cultivating clear, thoughtful, and persuasive writing as a means of glorifying God, expressing truth, and building up the community.
• Engage students in meaningful texts that challenge the intellect, stir the imagination, and form the moral conscience, helping them grow in virtue through reflection and dialogue.
• Foster a classroom culture rooted in the dignity of each person, where charity, respectful discourse, and a shared pursuit of truth are central.
• Support students in developing critical thinking through the lens of Catholic thought and culture, guiding them to discern wisely, evaluate culture with charity, and participate in the intellectual tradition of the Church.
• Provide space for spiritual reflection through literature — helping students recognize themes of redemption, sacrifice, vocation, and grace in the stories they encounter.

The ability to contribute to a culture of: (1) faith in Christ and His Church that is mature, informed, accountable, and dynamically missionary; (2) respect for the dignity, freedom, responsibility, and social vocation of the human person made in God’s image; and (3) human excellence reinforced through high, yet reasonable expectations for learning and for virtuous interactions among all members of the school community.
Strong classroom management skills, balancing classroom structure with rapport in working with small groups.

• Be a practicing Catholic and/or willing to uphold the teachings of the Catholic faith.
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
• Capacity to effectively communicate with others and clearly express complex ideas.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong public speaking and oral presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop lesson plans and successfully instruct students in theories, methods and tasks.
• Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to students’ various learning needs.
• Knowledge of appropriate learning psychology, styles, and strategies.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
• Advanced technology skills to track student attendance and grades and present creative lessons.
• Leadership skills and patience for working with students of all ages.
• General knowledge of several subjects and advanced knowledge in subject area hired to teach.
• Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms.
• Flexibility and critical-thinking skills.
• Patience and grace with students, families and co-workers.
• Ability to meet physical demands necessary to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
• Ongoing compliance with the Archdiocesan Essential 3 requirements as they relate to the safety of children and vulnerable adults.
