Description

The K-5 Dean of Students is the primary advocate for students in the school and is responsible for all non-academic, student-related behavioral matters. This position will work collaboratively and in full partnership with the School Principal and the Middle School Dean of Students to design, refine, and nurture a student experience that meets the unique needs and opportunities of our SJB students.

Be present and ready to work as required by the schedule. Demonstrate effective, appropriate student-management skills.

Participate in faith formation activities with students and colleagues, including, but not limited to, liturgies, prayer services, daily prayer, and retreats, as scheduled.

Maintain appropriate conduct throughout the campus.

Work with students as assigned.

Supervise students in the following areas (as assigned): Classrooms, Hallways, Church, Playground, Lunchroom, Bus Zones, Carpool Zones, Assemblies, and Fieldtrips as the schedule allows.

Lead the implementation of student management programs using diverse strategies to create a nurturing and safe learning environment conducive to all students’ success.

Collaborate with the school principal in refining the school-wide virtues and student management initiatives.

Work closely with our School Principal, Middle School Dean, teachers, and staff to build a positive, safe learning environment for all students.

Supervise student behavior daily, including on the bus, at recess, and during lunch.

Assist teachers in managing student behavior in coordination with our school principal.

Determine and enforce appropriate consequences for student behavior in accordance with our student management policy and goals, with input from the school principal.

Effectively communicate with the school principal, staff, students, and parents.

Qualifications

  • BA in Education and a current Minnesota Education License: MA in Educational Leadership is not required but encouraged.
  • Demonstrated appropriate educational experiences.
  • Practicing Catholic (to teach religion)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work without supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and implement new educational strategies.
  • Able to pass the required background check and complete the required initial training.
