The Church of St. Therese is seeking an inspiring Director of Faith Formation to lead, coordinate, and champion faith formation across the life of the Church.
Faith Formation is at the heart of our parish mission—helping parishioners encounter Christ and deepen their relationship with God. Working closely with the Pastor, parish leadership, and ministry teams, the Director of Faith Formation plays a vital role in shaping strategy, nurturing catechists, and creating transformative experiences of faith for children, youth, and adults.
Under the leadership of the Pastor, the Director of Faith Formation oversees and advances all aspects of the parish’s faith formation ministry, ensuring alignment with the General Directory for Catechesis (GDC), National Directory for Catechesis (NDC), and Archdiocesan Religious Education Standards. This role calls for a visionary leader, thoughtful collaborator, and pastoral presence within the parish community.
Leadership & Vision
- Lead the overall development, implementation, and evaluation of parish-wide Faith Formation.
- Collaborate with the Pastor to ensure parish-wide priorities come before individual ministry needs.
- Guide and support the Faith Formation Specialist and Youth Ministers in their program development and execution.
- Serve as a trusted parish resource on faith formation and catechetical matters.
Program Development & Oversight
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate Elementary and Adult Faith Formation Programming.
- Design and oversee sacramental preparation programs.
Catechist Support & Training
- Create a comprehensive annual calendar of catechist formation, trainings, and enrichment opportunities.
- Equip catechists with the tools, resources, and confidence needed to serve effectively.
Administration & Operations
- Arrange and manage facilities for Faith Formation programs in coordination with parish staff.
- Maintain accurate records for registration, attendance, evaluations, and sacramental documentation.
- Incorporate the Protection of Children and Youth curriculum where needed.
- In collaboration with the Director of Operations and Finance:
- Create and manage the Faith Formation department budget
- Oversee purchasing of supplies and materials within approved limits
Evaluation & Outreach
- Supervise outreach and service initiatives as assigned.
St. Therese is a large and established parish with solid liturgical life, established faith formation programs, a beautiful school, consecrated sisters, many volunteers, a vibrant music ministry, many volunteers and service projects and a wonderful location to be of service to Christ. The parish/school is committed to vibrant growth by living out Jesus Christ’s call to “Go and make disciples” (Matt 28:19) through our sacramental life, prayer, catechesis, fellowship, evangelization, school, service, and financial stewardship.
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic with strong knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and traditions.
- Previous experience working with youth (especially grades 6-12), including planning and implementing youth events.
- Understanding of and commitment to the teachings and values of the Roman Catholic Church as found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other recognized sources of authentic Catholic Tradition.
- Passionate to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
- Must have ability to work well with people, to give clear directions, and to adapt to changing conditions. Ability to work without immediate supervision.
- Ability to foster and maintain appropriate boundaries with fellow employees, volunteers, parishioners, visitors, and vendors and to conduct oneself in a courteous and professional manner.
- Collaborative management style including demonstrated ability to work well with staff and volunteers.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership.
- Proficiency in computer technology and ability to learn and adopt to new computer systems.
- Able to pass a required background check and complete required initial training.
The starting annual salary for this position is $60,000-$70,000 depending upon years of experience. This position offers medical and dental insurance, 403b retirement, paid time off, and other elective benefits as chosen by employee.
