Job Title: Boys’ Basketball - Middle School/Travel Basketball Head Coach

Reports To: Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach (Jacob Sand)

Location: Benilde-St. Margaret’s School, St. Louis Park, MN 

Season: Winter (High School Basketball) & additional offseason expectations Position Summary 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s School (BSM) is seeking well-qualified boys’ basketball coaches who are leaders on and off the court. There are various positions open within the program, some including work as a Varsity assistant in the program.

This position is more than a seasonal coaching role - it is an opportunity to build, align, and elevate a comprehensive 6–12 basketball program rooted in accountability, player development, and competitive excellence. All coaches in the program will assist in developing the program’s identity, implement modern systems, foster year-round development, and create a culture that reflects BSM’s Catholic, college-preparatory mission. 

Core Leadership Expectations 

We are seeking coaches who will: 

  • Assist in building and sustaining a unified 6–12 program structure with clear standards, terminology, and developmental benchmarks 
  • Establish a disciplined, high-accountability culture centered on leadership, toughness, and character 
  • Implement a cohesive style of play on both ends of the floor with long-term sustainability
  • Be an advocate for BSM and its boys’ basketball program.
  • Collaborate with other coaches on staff.
  • Promote multi-sport participation while maintaining competitive standards 
  • Represent BSM with professionalism within the Metro West Conference and MSHSL 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Assist in all preseason, in-season, and postseason preparation
  • Oversee and promote player development
  • Align with the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator on year-round performance programming 
  • Aid the head coach in administrative responsibilities including scheduling, rosters, equipment, and film coordination 
  • Maintain proactive and professional communication with players, parents, head coach, and the Athletics Office 
  • Ensure full compliance with MSHSL rules and BSM policies
  • Foster a positive, growth-oriented student-athlete experience while maintaining competitive expectations 

Season & Year-Round Commitment 

Season Duration: November through March (dependent on advancement) 

Year-Round Expectation: Assist with off-season workouts/camps, when applicable.

Compensation:

This position can range from $1,000-$3,000.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications 

Required: 

  • Proven experience playing or coaching competitive basketball (HSl, collegiate, or higher) 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain culture

-    Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills 

- Commitment to developing student-athletes as leaders on and off the court Preferred: 

- Head coaching or coordinator-level experience at the high school or collegiate level 

- Experience with coaching high school basketball

- Knowledge of MSHSL rules and compliance 

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) 

Other Requirements: 

  • Successful completion of background check and BSM Safe Environment training
