Description
St. Odilia School is a joyful, faith-filled Catholic school community serving over 700 students in Preschool through 8th grade. Rooted in our mission to educate the whole child—spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically—we seek a passionate and skilled Reading Specialist Teacher.
At St. Odilia, we recognize that the ability to read is not only an academic skill but a foundation for lifelong growth—and a gift we are called to nurture with patience, professionalism, and love. This teaching position will be full-time, beginning in late August 2025.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Reading Specialist who will provide targeted literacy support for students across grade levels, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow as a confident and capable reader. Additionally, depending on yearly case load, this teacher may also work with small enrichment groups to support excelling readers within the grade level who need additional challenge.
The ideal candidate will have reading certification, training in Orton-Gillingham or a similar structured literacy approach, and a strong understanding of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies. This new faculty member will be committed to advancing the mission of St. Odilia School by:
- Providing direct reading instruction to individual students and small groups, focusing on early literacy, decoding, fluency, comprehension, and written expression.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers and other learning lab teachers to identify students in need of intervention and/or enrichment and develop individualized support plans to help students further their growth and development in literacy.
- Using data-driven assessment tools to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly (we use Aimsweb to assess students along with NWEA Growth MAP testing).
- Participating in Child Study Team meetings, as well as district special education ISP meetings, and providing professional insight on reading development.
- Supporting the school’s Catholic identity and commitment to the development of the whole child.
Qualifications
- Current MN Teaching License with Reading certification and/or Master’s degree in Reading or Literacy Education
- Orton-Gillingham training or certification (or similar structured literacy approach)
- A minimum of 5 years of teaching reading is strongly preferred
- A background or experience in Special Education is highly valued and preferred
- Familiarity with MTSS or Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks
- Strong Background and experience in differentiation techniques
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, compassionate spirit
- Practicing Catholic preferred
