We are seeking an enthusiastic, faith-driven individual passionate about mentoring youth (ages 13-17) and young adults (18 and older) on their spiritual journey. In this rewarding role, you'll create and lead culturally relevant programs and activities, fostering spiritual growth, leadership development, and community outreach among our youth and young adults.

Ideal candidates will have a background in youth ministry, a strong understanding of Catholic evangelization and discipleship, and a heart dedicated to serving others.

Position Overview:

The Youth and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting the discipleship of youth and young adults within St. Alphonsus Church. This individual will engage with youth and young adults in meaningful ways to foster spiritual growth, build relationships, and guide them toward maturity in Christ. The coordinator collaborates closely with church leadership, parents, and community partners to create culturally relevant programming that strengthens faith within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Youth and Young Adult Discipleship and Mentoring

  • Develop and implement discipleship programs and Bible studies tailored to the cultural and spiritual needs of youth and young adults.
  • Lead small groups, mentoring sessions, and meetings to deepen relationships with Christ.
  • Provide support, helping navigate personal, academic, and faith-related challenges.

Program Development and Planning

  • Plan events, retreats, service projects, and activities fostering community and spiritual growth.
  • Ensure alignment of programming with the Catholic Church’s mission and values.
  • Incorporate culturally relevant activities reflective of parish community experiences.

Parental and Community Engagement

  • Establish partnerships with parents/guardians supporting youth spiritual growth.
  • Regularly communicate with families about programs and involvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with parish ministry leaders and community organizations for outreach.

Leadership Development

  • Identify and train youth and young adult leaders for peer discipleship roles.
  • Equip youth and young adults to utilize their spiritual gifts in ministry.
  • Foster servant leadership within the community.

Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity

  • Intentionally understand and respect diverse cultural, linguistic, and family dynamics.
  • Create an inclusive environment welcoming to all backgrounds.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate participation records and relevant documentation.
  • Manage ministry budgets effectively.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of ministry volunteers.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Faith and Character

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ with a strong personal testimony.
  • Active church member invested in the spiritual formation of youth and young adults.
  • Proven mentoring and discipleship abilities in a Christ-centered context.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in youth ministry, particularly engaging youth and families.
  • Strong cultural competency and ability to navigate bilingual, multicultural environments.
  • Proven track record planning and executing youth-focused programs and events.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; effectively connects with youth, families, and church leaders.
  • Experience in Catholic parish, school, organization, or diocesan settings emphasizing evangelization.

Languages

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

Education and Training

  • Degree in Christian Education, Theology, or related field preferred.
  • Certification/training in youth ministry, discipleship, or pastoral care advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

  • Passionate about serving and empowering youth and families.
  • Flexible availability including evenings/weekends for ministry events.
  • Completion of background check and safe-environment certification required upon hiring.
