Description
JOB PURPOSE:
The objective of the School Library Specialist position is to provide assistance for students and staff to direct, enhance, and support the learning process through the use of library materials.
STATEMENT ON WORKING FOR THE CATHOLIC CHURCH:
Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. It is required that this employee be a practicing Catholic.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inform students and staff of available library resources and assist with classroom integration.
- Assembles library collections that support and highlight the curriculum.
- Instruct library classes to elementary students. Plan and teach lessons on children’s literature, information resources, search techniques, and research methods.
- Collaborate with faculty and students to integrate the use of the library and research skills into classroom curriculum and projects.
- Be responsible for daily management of library routines, evaluation and selection of library materials, ordering, and circulation control.
- Promote and develop literacy creating a love for reading through programs, instruction, activities and events.
- Select and maintain materials that will complement and supplement curriculum.
- Eliminate outdated and unsuitable materials.
- Catalogs, classifies, and organizes media according to accepted standards and ready accessibility.
- Coordinates, educates, and supervises library student helpers and volunteers.
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic who respects and exemplifies Catholic values both in and out of the classroom.
- Classroom experience working with elementary and middle school students is preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills to support effective engagement with parents, other faculty, staff and the overall parish and school community.
- Ability to create a positive, productive learning environment.
- Ability to pass all appropriate background checks and Virtus training
- Passion for teaching and a commitment to ongoing professional development
