Description
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School’s Faithful Beginnings Preschool program is seeking a warm, dependable, and faith-filled Preschool Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood team for the 2026–2027 school year.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children and is committed to helping create a safe, nurturing, joyful, and faith-centered classroom environment. The Preschool Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in helping children grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically through play-based learning, daily routines, and positive guidance.
Successful candidates are patient, flexible, energetic, and able to work collaboratively in a busy preschool setting while meeting the needs of young learners.
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday | 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Start Date: Mid-August 2026 (school-year position)
Additional hours may be available through substitute or paraprofessional opportunities.
Responsibilities Include:
- Support the lead teacher in implementing daily classroom activities, routines, and curriculum
- Assist with centers, play-based learning, and small group or individual instruction
- Help children with transitions throughout the day (arrival, cleanup, bathroom routines, snack, lunch, dismissal, etc.)
- Provide positive redirection and encouragement to support age-appropriate behavior
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play to ensure safety at all times
- Prepare classroom materials and assist in maintaining an organized, engaging learning environment
- Assist with classroom cleanup and end-of-day routines
- Foster a calm, caring, and welcoming classroom where children feel safe and valued
- Collaborate closely with the lead teacher and preschool team to support all students
- Model and teach Catholic Christian values through word and example
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must meet Minnesota DHS licensing requirements for an Assistant Teacher (MN Rule 9503.0033)
- Experience working with young children in a preschool or early childhood setting preferred
- Warm, positive and genuine enjoyment of working with 3–5 year old children
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive working relationships
- Willingness to support and be a witness to the Catholic faith in both word and action
- Completion of required Archdiocesan background check, DHS background study, and VIRTUS training prior to start
- Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)
- Willingness to complete orientation and ongoing annual training requirements
Ability to work scheduled hours and occasional evenings or weekends for conferences, trainings, open houses, and school events.
