Description

Purpose:  A custodian/facilities maintenance person at Saint John the Baptist Church and School (SJB) is responsible for day to day custodial and maintenance needs for the facilities.  

 

Statement for working for the Catholic Church:  Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. This position does not require that the employee be a Catholic. It is expected that all employees respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices. Reasonable accommodation for the religious practice of employees not of the Roman Catholic faith will similarly be provided. 

 

All employees will be required to complete and maintain the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis Enhanced Essential Three, set forth by the Office of Ministerial Standards and Safe Environment (http://safe-environment.archspm.org/essential-3/), as a condition of employment. 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (*):

  1. To be present, on time and ready for work at all times that the position requires.
  2. To participate in creating a productive, harmonious environment, promoting good morale, adequate communication and cooperative teamwork within the staff and parish community. 
  3. Perform the job in a manner consistent with the moral, ethical, legal, and financial standards of civil and canon law, and Catholic Church teaching. 
  4. Be informed of all mandatory Church, Archdiocesan, Federal, and State laws and policies which impact on moral and ethical personnel standards (e.g., staff and volunteer background checks, treatment of vulnerable adults and youth, child protection reporting requirements, sexual harassment/misconduct, insurance liabilities, etc.).  Ensure compliance with these laws and policies in all programs. 
  5. Maintain professional standards of confidentiality.

 

CUSTODIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (*):

  1. Daily clean 14 bathrooms in parish and school.
    1. Tasks for each bathroom
      1. Clean floor (either mopping or some other method to disinfect, degrease, and clean floors)
      2. Scrub and disinfect urinals and commodes
      3. Wipe down partitions and walls
      4. Scrub sinks and counters
      5. Clean mirror
      6. Disinfect door handles/pushes inside and out.
      7. Restock toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap dispensers.
      8. Empty the garbage and replace the can liner.
      9. Stock sanitary napkins in girls'/women’s bathroom
  2. Weekly maintain storage stock room with adequate supplies, ordering from distributor and receiving orders when they receive as necessary.
  3. Daily Clean and disinfect drinking fountains each day.
  4. Daily mop school lunchroom kitchen and dining room.
  5. Daily check exterior doors to make sure they are locked at the end of the day.
  6. Summer: Deep cleaning classrooms, hallways, lunchroom, and other spaces.
    1. Scrub lockers, desks, and carpets.
    2. Strip and refinish the gym floor
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Maintenance and prior custodian experience preferred, but not required.
