Description
The primary purpose of this position is to support our parish mission by leading in discipleship couples and families engaging in our sacramental programs of Marriage, Baptism, First Sacraments and Order of Christian Initiation of Children. Position supports parents in the sacramental preparation as well as leads the Parent Program for Formation programs and supporting discipleship of families through evangelization events.
Representative Responsibilities
- *Implement goals and objectives of the Baptism Program.
- Oversee initial inquires and process intakes. Guide couples through preparation process.
- Manage communication overall and between families and ministry leaders, staff and clergy.
- Calendar and schedule for Baptism class and celebrations.
- Support and schedule the Baptism Class Facilitators with communications, on site class support and executing training.
- Train, schedule and support Baptism Celebration Assistants.
- Lead and coordinate Child/Parent Baptism Class for ages 3-7.
- Create and execute follow up ministry bringing families into active ministry especially in small group participation.
- *Implement goals and objectives of the Marriage Ministry/Convalidation process.
- Collaborate with staff on the overall marriage preparation process of couples.
- Manage communication overall and on formation preparation between couples and ministry leaders, staff and clergy.
- Oversee, calendar and support Wedding Workshops.
- Train, schedule and support the Mentor Couples.
- Create and execute follow up ministry bridging couples into active ministry especially small group participation. Collaborate with Marriage Ministry opportunities.
- * Implement goals and objectives of the Order of Christian Initiation of Children program.
- Oversee initial inquiries and meet with families. Guide families through process.
- Manage communications overall and with families, ministry leaders, staff and clergy.
- Oversee and lead monthly Family Meetings.
- Provide retreats, practices and celebrations.
- *Implement goals and objectives of the First Sacraments program.
- Coordinate the First Sacraments program for children in grade 2 working with Family Formation catechist team and Grade 2 schoolteachers on lesson implementation.
- Lead parents and their children in the preparation process of the program including home lesson orientation/encouragement, retreat opportunities, practices, and celebrations.
- Manage communication overall and between families and ministry leaders, staff and clergy.
- Recruit, train, and supervise catechists and volunteers as needed. Ensure adequate knowledge of faith, catechetical skills, and classroom management. Provide monthly training for effective ministry for catechists. Provide quarterly meetings with grade 2 schoolteachers.
- Engage inactive parents in small group format formation sessions.
- Coordinate the Parent Program for Formation Nights.
- Lead the Parent Core Team to execute the Parent Program Nights.
- Secure speakers and implement plan for Program Nights and Catechist In Services.
- Manage communication overall and between families and ministry leaders, staff and clergy.
- Bridge discipleship of parents into active ministry especially with small group participation.
- Handle conflicts, challenges, crisis situations, and behavior issues with maturity by providing pastoral care, mentoring and wisdom to both adults and youth. Make the necessary referrals and follow up according to safe environment policies.
- Be an active member of the St. John’s church community by being present and attend weekend Masses regularly as well as school and church events of high visibility such as Fall Fest, Wines to Wishes and St. John’s Feast Day. It is of high importance that the incumbent in this position knows and is known by parishioners.
- Assist with implementing All Saints Day Party, Journey to the Inn and Egg Hunt.
- Meet regularly with supervisor and team members. Attend ODM, parish staff and all staff meetings. Attend Archdiocesan events and networking opportunities within your area of ministry for ongoing development and support.
- Plan and implement the mission and vision, and continually evaluate the programs and make improvements and adjustments as needed.
- Assist with VBS and Totus Tuus.
- Assist with Childcare Ministry by providing help with children as needed.
Responsible for these administrative functions:
- *Fiscal responsibility of budget areas, including tracking expenses and developing budget proposals as directed.
- *Clearly communicate
- in written and oral forms: bulletin, one-on-one interaction, public speaking in large and small group dynamics.
- details of all activities with pastor and supervisor, other SJB staff, parents, and volunteers.
- *Provide excellent hospitality via phone or e-mail and in person as needed.
- *Maintain effective working relationships with parish and school staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers, parents, etc.
- *Handle conflicts, challenges, crisis situations, and behavior issues with maturity by providing pastoral care, mentoring and wisdom to both adults and youth. Make the necessary referrals and follow up according to safe environment policies.
- *Work well independently and in a group dynamic.
- *Participation in meetings, as needed both onsite and networking with people in similar positions offsite
- *Researching and purchasing of supplies as needed.
*To be present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance, and generally ensuring all is ready and taken care of.
*Organize, prepare and maintain files and information. Gather information from fax, email and other sources, ensure all information has been received, follow up as necessary, organize reports and make them available for convenient reference, maintain for the designated time, discard at designated time.
*Maintain and improve work knowledge and skills such as understanding requirements and work procedures, purpose of work completed and computer and projector use.
*Meet all communication requirements including interpersonal skills with parish and school employees as well as visitors, guests, school families, and parishioners. Includes keeping superiors and appropriate others informed.
*Help create a productive environment where there is harmony, good morale, and cooperative teamwork. Monitor self-productivity and take corrective action as appropriate.
*Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality of all work data.
Other Responsibilities: includes other responsibilities identified as needed by the employee and approved and/or assigned by supervisor or pastor.
Qualifications
- Must be a practicing Catholic with a sound understanding of Catholic practice, Tradition and Scripture.
- Demonstrate understanding and acceptance of Catholic doctrine.
- Experience and education in sacraments and sacramental preparation.
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, education or equivalent.
- Demonstrated skills and interests in this type of work.
- Experience in communications – email, newsletter, etc.
- Strong computer, keyboarding and 10-key skills
- Proficiency in technology: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ParishSoft database, Flocknote, others).
- Strong writing skills; proficiency in grammatical skills
- Must be able to pass background check
