Position Overview

Our Lady of Peace Catholic School is seeking a creative, student-centered, and mission-driven 0.5 FTE Art Teacher to provide art instruction for preschool and kindergarten through 5th-grade students. The Art Teacher will foster creativity, imagination, skill development, and artistic confidence while helping students experience art as a meaningful form of expression, reflection, and joy.

The ideal candidate will create a welcoming and engaging classroom environment where students feel safe, seen, and supported as they explore a variety of artistic techniques, materials, cultures, and traditions. This teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to support the broader mission of Our Lady of Peace Catholic School and contribute positively to the life of the school community.

Primary Responsibilities

The Art Teacher will:

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate art lessons for preschool through 5th grade students.
  • Introduce students to a variety of artistic media, techniques, styles, artists, and cultural traditions.
  • Foster creativity, curiosity, confidence, and joy in artistic expression.
  • Create a classroom environment that is organized, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful.
  • Support students in developing fine motor skills, visual literacy, creative problem-solving, and appreciation for the arts.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and developmental levels.
  • Maintain clear classroom expectations and support positive student behavior.
  • Prepare, organize, and care for art materials, supplies, and classroom space.
  • Display student artwork throughout the school to celebrate student learning and creativity.
  • Communicate with classroom teachers, school staff, and administration as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events as appropriate for a 0.5 FTE role.
  • Support the Catholic mission, values, and community life of Our Lady of Peace Catholic School.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Elementary Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Minnesota teaching license preferred, or willingness to pursue appropriate licensure.
  • Experience teaching art to elementary-aged children preferred.
  • Experience working with preschool or early childhood students preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive, joyful learning environment.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate art instruction, materials, and techniques.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support a variety of learning needs.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • A commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • A desire to be part of a warm, collaborative, and student-centered school community.
