1st Grade Teacher

St. Michael Catholic School is seeking a dynamic Catholic teacher ready to embrace our mission of “Living for Christ and Learning for Life” as a first grade teacher!  This includes instructing children in the teachings of the Catholic Church by word and example and planning lessons in all content areas that incorporate best practices with consideration for various learning styles. Candidates must be student-centered, have high expectations, and have an enthusiastic approach to working with students and their families. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.  There must also be a willingness to work in collaboration with another teacher of the same grade.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

• An understanding of, commitment to, and passion for the mission of Catholic education and being a credible witness of the Catholic faith
• Ability to contribute to a culture of: (1) faith in Christ and the Catholic Church that is mature, informed, accountable, and dynamically missionary; (2) respect for the dignity, freedom, responsibility, and social vocation of the human person made in God’s image; and (3) human excellence reinforced through high, yet reasonable expectations for learning and virtuous interactions among all members of the school community
• Ability to adapt the preceding to create a classroom culture that is age-appropriate, and to promote students’ full, conscious, and active participation in that culture, utilizing Responsive Classroom philosophy & strong classroom management skills
• MN teaching license
• Experience teaching primary grades
• Understanding of the science of reading 
• Interest in and/or experience teaching science or social studies
• Experience designing instruction and assessments aligned with standards
• Experience integrating technology into both instruction and learning
• Experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and meeting the needs of exceptional learners
• Willingness to collaborate in planning instruction and making data-driven decisions
• A strong work ethic balanced with the ability to laugh and share the joy of learning
