Position Overview:
The Youth Ministry Coordinator at St. Alphonsus Church helps develop and lead efforts to form and accompany middle and high school youth (typically grades 6–12) in their Catholic faith. Rooted in the Redemptorist mission and responsive to the cultural diversity of our parish, this role is dedicated to nurturing relationships, building community, and guiding young people toward a deeper encounter with Christ. The coordinator works closely with parish staff, volunteers, families, and ministry leaders to design and implement relevant and engaging faith formation experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
Youth Discipleship and Mentoring
• Collaborate in developing and leading faith formation programs, retreats, and small groups that support youth (grades 6–12) in deepening their relationship with Christ.
• Provide pastoral support and mentorship to youth navigating personal, academic, and spiritual challenges.
• Help foster a welcoming culture of belonging, encounter, and spiritual growth.
Program Development and Planning
• Take an active role in planning, promoting, and helping lead youth-centered events, retreats, service projects, and social gatherings that foster spiritual and communal growth.
• Work with staff to align programming with the mission of the Catholic Church and the vision of St. Alphonsus.
• Incorporate culturally relevant elements that reflect the lived experiences of our diverse parish families.
Parental and Community Engagement
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to encourage family involvement in youth ministry and formation.
• Build partnerships with parish ministry leaders, school staff, and community organizations to strengthen outreach and collaboration.
Youth Leadership Development
• Support and guide youth in developing leadership skills for ministry and service.
• Encourage youth to explore and share their gifts through service, leadership, and evangelization.
Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity
• Promote an inclusive environment that affirms the cultural and linguistic diversity of our community.
• Ensure programs are welcoming and accessible to youth of all backgrounds and abilities.
Administrative and Volunteer Coordination
• Maintain accurate records of youth participation, sacramental prep, and volunteer involvement.
• Assist with recruitment, training, and ongoing support of adult volunteers.
• Collaborate with staff to manage the ministry budget and ensure compliance with parish and Archdiocesan policies.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Faith and Character
• Committed disciple of Jesus Christ with a mature personal faith.
• Practicing Catholic in good standing, passionate about the spiritual formation of youth.
• Strong moral character and a heart for pastoral ministry.
Skills and Experience
• Some experience in youth ministry or related leadership roles (volunteer or paid).
• Cultural competency in bilingual, multicultural environments.
• Comfortable helping plan youth retreats, service projects, and events.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to relate to youth, parents, and church leaders.
Languages
• Conversational proficiency in both English and Spanish is required for effective communication with families.
Education and Training
• Coursework or hands-on experience in theology, ministry, education, or a related area is helpful but not required.
• We’re happy to support continued formation and training.
Additional Requirements:
• Passionate about serving and empowering young people and their families.
• Availability for evening/weekend events.
• Successful completion of background check and Archdiocesan safe-environment training required upon hiring.
