Description
Position Summary:
The Senior Talent Development Specialist supports the mission of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis by designing and implementing programs that enhance employee growth, engagement, leadership capacity, and organizational effectiveness. This position focuses on employee training, succession planning, and other talent development initiatives that foster a culture of learning, engagement, and faithful service throughout Archdiocesan offices, parishes, and schools.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Training and Development
- Assess organizational training needs and design learning programs that align with the Archdiocese’s mission, values, and strategic goals;
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver training in areas such as leadership, communication, compliance, and ministry effectiveness;
- Administer and maintain the Archdiocese’s learning management system (LMS), ensuring accurate tracking of participation and outcomes;
- Collaborate with department and parish leaders to customize training solutions that address local and organizational needs.
Succession Planning and Talent Management
- Develop and implement comprehensive succession planning frameworks
- Partner with leadership to implement a structured succession planning process for key Archdiocesan roles;
- Identify and develop high-potential employees through targeted learning, mentoring, and career pathing opportunities;
- Maintain talent profiles and assist in workforce planning and leadership development initiatives;
- Support the creation and maintenance of individual development plans for current and emerging leaders.
Organizational and Leadership Development
- Promote programs and resources that strengthen employee engagement and spiritual growth;
- Use data and feedback to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of development programs and recommend continuous improvements;
- Facilitate annual employee engagement surveys and action planning.
- Partner with HR colleagues to align performance management, competency models, and career development processes with talent strategy.
Other Responsibilities
- Stay current on best practices in learning, leadership, and faith-based organizational development;
- Manage program logistics, budgets, and vendor relationships as needed;
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Archdiocese’s mission and the priorities of the Office of Human Resources;
- Miscellaneous duties assigned by the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Qualifications
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
- Knowledge and understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its structure and the ministries within the Offices of the Catholic Center;
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and presentation skills;
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with a collaborative mindset;
- Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and adult learning principles;
- Analytical ability to assess needs, measure program outcomes, and demonstrate results;
- High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
Job Qualifications: (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Industrial Education, or related field required.
- Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPLP, SHRM-CP/SCP, or similar) preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in training, learning and development, or talent management, preferably in a complex or mission-driven organization.
Physical Requirements:
- This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Occasional travel to parishes, schools, or Archdiocesan sites may be required;
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk working on a computer;
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds;
- Regular attendance is required.
