St. John Vianney College Seminary (SJV) Description and Mission: SJV is the largest college seminary in the United States, representing 18 dioceses throughout the nation, with 115 undergraduate men in formation. SJV is a vibrant and healthy environment that has the highest reputation for forming Men in Christ, Men of the Church, and Men for Others. SJV is located on the campus of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Position Summary: The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for supporting the vision and mission of SJV by creating and executing marketing and communications plans aligned with the seminary’s fundraising and enrollment goals. The manager reports to the Rector of SJV and is responsible for strategic marketing and communications of the seminary, working closely with the Director of Development. The manager also partners with the rest of the SJV staff regarding its efforts in marketing to prospective seminarians and sending dioceses.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  1. Works with seminary leadership to create and then execute an annual organizational communications plan.
    • Supports the efforts of the director of development, including the strategic fundraising initiative and events for SJV.
    • Plans and executes the writing / editing, design and production of Vianney News (currently 2 times/year), and the annual reports for SJV.
    • Oversees the SJV website and all social media and email marketing channels.
    • Oversees creation of all marketing materials (digital and print).
    • Manages all outside vendors, including photographers, graphic designers, printers and videographers.
  2. Executes the recruitment marketing strategy in collaboration with the rector and SJV staff.
  3. Supports the Rector in internal and external communications.
  4. Acts as SJV’s brand manager, ensuring consistency in value proposition, messaging and brand execution elements across all channels.
  5. Mentors a team of seminarians (Vianney Media) who capture and post social media and other forms of digital content.
  6. Collaborates with key institutional partners, including marketing contacts at The University of St. Thomas, The Saint Paul Seminary and the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday office hours; occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Summer and holiday flexibility.

Qualifications

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Strong planning and organizational skills combined with the ability to execute in a fast-paced environment
  • Principles and methods of developing effective informational and educational materials for print and digital media
  • Modern marketing trends and systems
  • Administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, implementation and evaluation
  • Project management and analytical techniques
  • Familiarity with applicable laws, codes and regulations
  • Computer applications, including photo and video editing and graphics and desktop publishing
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment
  • Record management principles and practices
  • Correct business grammar, including spelling and punctuation
  • Workflow management skills for multiple simultaneous projects and responses
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Familiarity with the Catholic faith and comfortable working in a formation-centered Catholic environment

 Job Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of related professional experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time for meetings/presentations
  • Ability to use computer keyboard for communication, document preparation and data analysis
  • Ability to lift 10+ pounds
