Security Associate

Purpose of Position: The Security Associate is responsible for patrolling and monitoring the Cathedral property, as well as ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors while on or about the premises. 

Responsibilities:

• Provides for the safety and security of Cathedral facilities, parishioners, visitors, volunteers and staff
• Deter, de-escalate, and resolve issues that may arise within the church building or any event
• Authorize access to facilities and ensure that access is controlled.
• Provide hospitality services to ensure that parishioners and visitors are offered assistance as appropriate to maintain a welcoming and safe environment
• Provide other duties as assigned

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and communicate well orally and in writing
• Ability to react to hostile and/or hazardous events and persons
• Ability to coordinate with contracted security
• Must be flexible with work schedule

Qualifications:

• Security and/or military experience preferred
• Possess effective interrelation skills and ability to collaborate in a team-based environment
• Knowledge and ability of de-escalation, negotiation, CPR, scenario-based incidents
• Understanding of Catholic Faith, its rituals, liturgical calendar, and practices not necessary but preferred
• Successful completion of required background checks and safe environment training
