Description
The primary objective of this 20 hour per week position is to provide leadership, coordination, and communication pertaining to the school kitchen, cafeteria and lunch program for St. Bart’s School. This position is responsible for performing kitchen procedures, ordering & serving food and completing reports for State reimbursements. Managing the provision of serving attractive and nutritious meals efficiently and effectively are key. This position requires a pleasant disposition, independent working skills, quickness in carrying out duties, personal neatness, serving skills, heavy lifting, record keeping, cleanup and working with various chemicals and detergents.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Support vision, mission, philosophy and core values at the school.
- Oversee the school kitchen and coordinate with the lunchroom supervisor.
- Operate kitchen machines (i.e. mixer, dishwasher, oven, steam table, heating cart, etc.) and train staff in proper operation and sanitizing of the same
- Work independently
- Correctly lift up to 35 pounds in various containers (i.e. heavy mixing bowls, cases of food, large pans of unbaked and baked food, cases of canned and fresh vegetable and fruit)
- Serve proper portions of food; know and practice “offer vs. serve”
- Assist in daily cleanup of kitchen, service and cafeteria areas
- Maintain sanitary conditions at all times
- Practice safety habits at all times
- Assist with daily record keeping and reporting of information for reimbursements
- Store leftover food properly
- Maintain proper storage of food items
- Coordinate food orders for snacks and lunches
- Negotiate schedule changes with building principal
- Maintain updated knowledge of school policies and procedures that affect this position
- Assign duties as necessary
- Responsible for the safe smooth running of the kitchen and kitchen volunteers
- Maintain consistent presence and regular work hours
- Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
- Understand and fulfill all aspects of employee and faculty and student handbooks.
- Communicate in a timely, confidential, and professional manner with all stakeholders.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
REGULAR EXPECTATIONS
- Prepare food as necessary (light cooking in convection ovens and stove top, portioning of food/condiments, cutting of fruit, transfer of prepared foods to steam tables etc.)
- Preparation of condiments.
- Preparation of cleaning supplies (bleach/water buckets, / flatware solution soak).
- Set-up and running of commercial dishwasher.
- Service of meals to students and staff.
- Clean up trays, flatware, pots and pans, and serving and preparation surfaces.
- Order and maintain supplies needed for cleaning and food preparation.
- Wipe-down of appliance exteriors as needed.
- Keep inventory of kitchen items and surplus food.
- Use permanent marker to date food items put in storage.
- Maintain food storage areas.
- Be in compliance with Federal Hot Lunch Regulations as directed.
- Complete necessary paperwork for school lunch or milk programs
- Complete reports for state or federal programs.
- Work with vendors for ordering food.
- Support school programs, activities, projects and fundraisers
- Work in unison with the entire staff of St. Bartholomew as part one community.
- Strive for professional competence and growth through staff development activities provided by the school and self-selected professional programs.
- Seek out opportunities for professional growth.
- Attend required classes for kitchen licensing and food service.
- Conduct all professional activities in accordance with stated school/parish policies.
- To attend employee staff meetings as required.
- Use good communication skills.
- To be in direct communication with the principal.
- Communicate a positive public relation image at all times.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- High School Degree or equivalency.
- Knowledge and support of Catholic School mission, vision, philosophy, and values.
- Ability to work with children and adults.
- Maintains confidentiality of students, families, and staff.
- Models professional behaviors.
- Demonstrate competence in technology skills as position demands.
- Ability to collaborate and maintain a collegial atmosphere in and out of the kitchen.
