Full-Time Youth Ministry Coordinator (Faith Formation Department)
Provides work direction to: Faith Formation and Youth Ministry volunteers (all ages) including catechists, adult program leaders, chaperones and hospitality.
Receives work direction from: Pastor and Business Administrator.
Schedule: This is a full-time exempt position, requiring approximately 30-40 flexible hours per week year-round. (Flexible hours are allowed for this position as it may require some work in the evenings and on weekends.)
Requirements due to the nature of the work: This position is subject to pre-employment screening through Criminal Background and Credit checks. A credentials check (if applicable) and Driver License (if will be driving for work tasks) may also be performed if needed. The employee must also obtain Virtus Attendance/certification and sign an annual acceptance of the Archdiocesan Justice in Employment document and the Employee Code of Pastoral Conduct.
Purpose: The Youth Ministry Coordinator will:
- Develop, coordinate and direct the Junior and Senior High Youth Ministry including education, service, prayer opportunities and activities. Assist with sacramental instruction (especially Confirmation) and preparation for individual young people as needed or requested by the Pastor.
- Collaborate with the Faith Formation Coordinator to provide faith formation opportunities for all the youth of the parish in grades 6-12. Collaborate with other staff, parish organizations and activities that promote the faith and personal development of youth.
- Direct and coordinate the St. Bridget Youth Group activities (grades 6-12).
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: *Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. This position does require that the employee be a Roman Catholic. It is expected that all employees respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices. Job Qualifications: 1. Active, participating Catholic in good standing with the Church 2. Educational requirements: A) Prefer a college degree in field related to education, youth ministry, catechetics, or theology, with three or more years experience in youth ministry. Previous experience working with youth (especially grades 6-12), including planning and participating in youth retreats. 3. Understanding of and commitment to the teachings and values of the Roman Catholic Church as found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other recognized sources of authentic Catholic Tradition. 4. Genuine appreciation of young people, and ability to communicate well and work effectively with youth, adults of the community, and staff. 5. Working knowledge and understanding of human growth and development, including areas of physical, sexual, intellectual, emotional, moral, social and spiritual development. 6. Personnel Management training and skills – for volunteer personnel. Ability to work with various staff and to coordinate a potentially large and diverse group of volunteers. 7. Organization skills.
