Full-Time Youth Minister

Job Description

Purpose of Position:

To maintain and develop a solid parish Youth Ministry where middle and high school teens are being led closer to Christ and His Church by providing opportunities for intentional discipleship, fellowship, service, sacraments, and prayer.


General Responsibilities:

*Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment.  Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church.  Their public behavior must not violate faith, morals or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.  It is required that this employee be an active participating Roman Catholic.

* Given the combined pastoral and administrative nature of this position, hours vary from week to week. Evenings, weekends and overnights will be required. Regular daytime meetings will be required. As such, the amount of “in-office” hours is flexible and there will be opportunities to work many administrative tasks remotely and at other locations.

Representative Responsibilities:

*To be present where needed, ready for work, to recognize situations that require additional effort, to put in more time when necessary, to provide an example of punctuality.

*To help create a productive harmonious environment, promoting good moral, adequate communication and cooperative teamwork.

*Provide leadership to coordinate and maintain the parish programs including the following duties:

  • *Risk Management
    • Gather information required from volunteers for background checks and submit to Safe Environment Coordinator.
  • *Volunteers
    • Recruit and train volunteers to adequately staff youth ministry activities.
      • Provide support to volunteers by personally being present before, during and after activity; giving the volunteers guidance and affirmation.
      • Invite volunteer participation in faith sharing experiences.

*Maintaining strong relationships with other staff, the parish council, volunteers, and parents, ensuring vibrant support within the parish for Youth Ministry.

*Facilitate and organize youth ministry events such as those we currently participate in, which are listed below. Collaborate and promote youth ministry events when necessary with parish community ministries, Archdiocesan groups, or local Catholic Churches.

    • Fundraising events
    • Parish Festival Promotion Booth

*Work with Faith Formation Director when necessary to be a presence and support for the program. As well as plan/collaborate events to evangelize youth 6th-12th in the Faith Formation program.

*When possible do relational ministry with 6th-12th grade teens and their families by venturing to group activities they are participating in i.e. sports or theater.

*Communicate/promote with the parish about the youth ministry events:

  • Bulletin & Newsletter articles
  • Bulletin board in church & activities building
  • Facebook/Instagram
  • Posters & flyers
  • Web site

*Keep detailed records of student registration and attendance at events.

*Operate department within the approved budget; Submit budget annually.

*Submit a calendar year of events along with the budget annually.

*Participate in performance review with supervisor.

*Provide a good example of being a disciple of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

*Meets with Pastor regularly to communicate how the ministry is developing, to bring any concerns, and to be on the same page with the mission of youth ministry.

*Continuing Education

  • Participate in semi-monthly staff meetings
  • Participate in workshops and professional organizations as a part of ongoing formation
  • Attend NET gatherings, vicariate meetings, or any Archdiocesan youth ministry development days
  • Attend Deanery workshop/development events
  • Seek opportunities for personal, spiritual and professional growth

 Other Responsibilities

  1. Be able to sit, stand, squat, lift and bend as required to move tables and chairs, to move boxes, and to perform other physical tasks common to a parish.
  1. Lift and maneuver objects up to 40 pounds.
  2. Be able to use a computer keyboard for long periods of time during the day.
  3. Be able to work long hours (12+) when the occasion demands.

Job Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS 1. Demonstrate understanding and acceptance of Catholic doctrine. 2. BA or equivalent work experience including Youth Ministry, Teaching, and / or Theology. 4. Understanding of Archdiocesan policies regarding Youth Ministry and Sacramental curriculum, including working knowledge of PCYI compliance, and reporting desired. 5. Team player with a positive attitude. 6. Experience in general office procedures with working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office, and Google Office Suite.
