Description

St. Therese Catholic School of Deephaven is seeking a faith-filled and dynamic full-time school counselor to serve our K-8 students and families and join our growing and collaborative team.

The responsibilities listed below are representative of the position and are not all-inclusive. They are considered essential for the successful completion of this position.

1. Relationship with Pastor * Recognizes and respects the ultimate authority of the pastor who delegates and encourages independent decision-making and action when appropriate.

2. Essential Functions *
a. Help students attain an optimum level of personal, social and spiritual adjustment.
b. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting resources concerning the needs and abilities of students.
c. Communicate effectively with all members of the school community.
d. Work with the administration and learning specialist to identify support and enrichment needs and provide services to support these needs.

3. General Responsibilities *
a. Provide individual support and group guidance to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic and family concerns.
b. Consult with parents, teachers, administrator, and supporting resources concerning the needs and abilities of students.
c. Develop and deliver weekly classroom guidance lessons to all grade levels.
d. Update and maintain confidential student records.
e. Attend and assist when necessary, with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation and open house.
f. Keep informed of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
g. Serve on the PBIS Team.
h. Serve on Student Support Team.
i. Other duties as assigned by the Administration.

4. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required *
a. Knowledge and support of the St. Therese Parish and School mission and root beliefs
b. Knowledge and adherence to the NCEA Teacher Code of Ethics: Teachers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Catholic Church
c. Knowledge of and adherence to parish policies and procedures as written in the Personnel Handbook
d. Ability to maintain confidentiality including regarding fellow staff members, students, parents or school/ parish situations
e. Ability to collaborate, cooperate and adapt
f. Knowledge and implementation of best practices in teaching and learning
g. Knowledge of subject matter

5. Educator’s Responsibilities and Essential Functions *
a. Establish and maintain a classroom climate that is conducive to learning
b. Prepare written lesson plans stating learning goals, instructional methods and resource materials. Submit one week’s worth of lesson plans each month to the principal
c. Follow standards and use selected school wide curriculum, supplementing when necessary
d. Personalize instruction to address learning styles and learning needs
e. Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction/ resources accordingly
f. Implement educational technology to enhance learning
g. Participate in ongoing professional development, both with fellow staff members and individually and keep documentation
h. Work in cooperation with the entire staff and the principal
i. Participate in conversations and planning with professional learning communities (support teams)
j. Actively supervise students in your charge
k. Assist in active supervision in other areas as scheduled for the entirety of your scheduled shift.

m. Communicate with students, parents and staff members in a timely manner with dignity and respect
n. Write annual personal growth goals and document progress of those goals
o. Assist students in creating goals
p. Assist and attend liturgical functions during school hours
q. Lead by example during prayer, adoration and liturgical celebrations
r. Attend school functions including all staff professional development sessions, parent teacher conferences, Christmas program and other school programs, eighth grade graduation, Catholic Schools Week Mass, school play and fundraising events
s. Participate in activities in which the entire student body is involved
t. Follow the daily schedule of classes and events. Teachers may be asked to take charge of combined classes or fill in by giving up preparation periods if no substitute can be obtained
u. In case of extended school closures, teachers must prepare quality distance learning lessons and live teaching sessions as needed
v. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school principal

6. CERTIFICATION
a. Maintain current licensure or be working toward Minnesota school counseling license (documentation must be on file in the school office)

7. COMMUNICATION
a. Educators are expected to:
- Check mailboxes, email and voice mail throughout the day and respond in a timely manner
- Read all-school parent newsletters, faculty newsletters, memos, etc.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress
- Maintain an open and collaborative line of communication with any learning specialist or special education teachers who also support common students
- Copy principal on newsletters and whole class emails
- Discuss complex communication issues with principal before sending
- Distribute any information to go home with students the same day it is received
- All communication should be professional in appearance and edited for spelling and grammar

8. OFFICE FORMS
a. Submit all requests for classroom maintenance via the appropriate system to the Parish Director of Operations.
b. Submit all requests for room set-ups (for special events) to the parish office coordinator
c. Field trip requests must be given to the administrative assistant at least two weeks prior to a field trip. Every child going on a field trip must have a signed parent permission form. Teachers must follow these procedures:
- Students not having a signed form must stay at school
- If a child cannot afford the fee, please notify the office. Financial aid is available.
- Check requests for field trips must be given to the principal at least two weeks prior to the trip
d. Personal time off requests must be completed and given to the principal for approval. Please do not request time off during the first two weeks or last two weeks of school.

9. RECORD KEEPING AND OTHER TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Accidents/injuries/illness must be reported to the office immediately. A record is kept of all students reporting to the health office for whatever reason. Students who appear ill or injured should not be sent to the health office alone.
b. This building is used by multiple parish ministries. The Faith Formation program will have access to all classrooms on Wednesdays beginning at 3:30.
c. In case of inclement weather, playground monitors will supervise students in classrooms until teachers return to their rooms. Please be considerate and return to your classroom as early as possible.
d. Teachers must inform the school office when they leave the school grounds during the school day for any reason.
e. Teachers must attend weekly staff meetings and other professional development as directed by the Principal.

Qualifications

Qualifications
1. BA or BS Degree
2. Current Minnesota teaching/counseling license in area of instruction
3. Demonstrate understanding and acceptance of Catholic doctrine.
4. Computer literacy. Computer skills and knowledge or Microsoft Office products.
5. Ability to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
