Job Description

Purpose of Position:  The President will work with the CSCOE staff, as well as school principals, teachers, pastors, business administrators and others, to create, improve, make available, and implement programs and services that will assist school leaders in achieving excellence throughout their schools.  In addition, the president will be responsible for helping schools to grow their enrollments, not only through the enhanced level of excellence in the schools, but also by sharing and promoting best practices, as well as developing and helping to implement successful strategies in enrollment management.  Specific areas within the schools that might need attention include, but are not limited to: academic outcomes, professional development, technology, marketing, communications, customer service, development, enrollment management, preschools, pre-k- to-k conversion rates, and overall student retention.

Duties and responsibilities

The President will:

  1. Work with the board of directors to carry out the mission and achieve the vision of the CSCOE organization.
  2. Be the point person in establishing the strategy through which CSCOE’s investments in the Catholic schools will have the maximum positive impact on excellence and enrollment.
  3. Build, maintain, motivate and lead a high-performing CSCOE team, including staff members, consultants and contract workers, to create and implement organizational plans, programs and services.
  4. Oversee the budget to ensure CSCOE’s financial well being and to maximize the assistance that is being provided to the Catholic schools.
  5. Meet ambitious goals in the areas of excellence throughout the schools and enrollment growth.
  6. Ensure that CSCOE complies with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, as well as with the standards and expectations of the Archdiocese.
  7. Oversee the creation and implementation of professional development programs for school leadership, teachers and staff to meet important training needs identified by principals.
  8. Develop and implement informational and best-practice-sharing communications and events to help pastors and business administrators lead and support their schools.
  9. Work with the Archdiocese and elementary schools to identify and implement enrichment opportunities that maintain, enhance and foster the Catholic identity that is at the heart of the Catholic schools.
  10. Work collaboratively with the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis (specifically the Vicar of Education and the OMCE staff). This includes addressing problems and issues in the schools when the Archdiocese feels CSCOE could be of assistance.
  11. Meet and work with individuals and organizations that express interest in helping the Catholic elementary schools achieve excellence and grow enrollment.
  12. Oversee the development of financial resources to fund the work of the organization, including participating regularly in fund-raising and development efforts with individuals, foundations and corporate sponsors.
  13. Oversee the development and implementation of a communications plan to communicate effectively the work of the organization to key stakeholders and other interested parties.
  14. Be responsive to the needs and requests of the organization’s Board of Directors.

The President must be familiar with, and work collaboratively with, the 79 schools that comprise the Catholic school system in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.  As such, the President will be expected to spend a substantial amount of his or her time visiting schools, experiencing first-hand the successes and opportunities present in each school, and working collaboratively with school, parish and Archdiocesan school leaders in the on-going effort to enhance excellence and increase enrollment. Success in this position will require flexibility in terms of working hours to accommodate evening and weekend activities.

Job Qualifications: The President will: 1. Hold a bachelor’s, master’s or terminal degree. 2. Be an entrepreneur, with the proven ability to “think outside the box” in developing unique and innovative approaches to challenging issues and situations. 3. Be an effective leader who has demonstrated the ability to inspire, motivate and lead an organization. 4. Have demonstrated success in recruiting, managing and retaining outstanding employees, as well as overseeing and managing the work of independent contractors, consultants and/or volunteers. 5. Be a practicing Catholic who is passionate about CSCOE’s mission of serving Catholic-school principals and teachers in achieving excellence and growing enrollment in their schools. 6. Be capable of articulating and generating enthusiasm for the mission. 7. Have demonstrated experience in successful fund-raising and development efforts; 8. Have familiarity and experience with Catholic elementary schools. 9. Have experience in running a business or nonprofit organization, including planning, budgeting, human resources, marketing/communications, and setting and achieving goals. 10. Demonstrate the highest ethical and moral standards in personal and business conduct.
