Primary Responsibilities include:
• preparing and teaching classroom lessons in religion for grade 6-8
• Selecting and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum
• Assisting in preparing students for roles at Mass such as reading and altar serving
• Working collaboratively to create and execute retreats for students and parents
• Being an active and appropriate role model for students in their faith
• Leading a group of students in the Peer Ministry program

I. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS POSITION:

A St. Therese Catholic School teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students grow cognitively, spiritually and emotionally.

Il. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Knowledge and support of the St. Therese Parish and School mission and root beliefs
• Knowledge and adherence to the NCEA Teacher Code of Ethics: Teachers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Catholic Church
• Knowledge of and adherence to parish policies and procedures as written in the Personnel Handbook
• Ability to maintain confidentiality including regarding fellow staff members, students, parents or school/ parish situations
• Ability to collaborate, cooperate and adapt
• Knowledge and implementation of best practices in teaching and learning
• Knowledge of subject matter

III. TEACHER'S RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Establish and maintain a classroom climate that is conducive to learning
• Prepare written lesson plans stating learning goals, instructional methods and resource materials. Submit one lesson per month to the principal
• Follow standards and use selected school wide curriculum, supplementing when necessary
• Personalize instruction to address learning styles and learning needs
• Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction/ resources accordingly
• Implement educational technology to enhance learning
• Participate in ongoing professional development, both with fellow staff members and individually and keep documentation
• Work in cooperation with the entire staff and the principal
• Participate in conversations and planning with professional learning communities (support teams)
• Post emergency information (evacuation exits) on walls; keep red emergency folder on desk
• Actively supervise students in your charge
• Assist in supervision in other area as scheduled
• Communicate with students, parents and staff members in a timely manner with dignity and respect
• Write annual personal growth goals and document progress of those goals
• Assist students in creating goals
• Assist and attend liturgical functions during school hours
• Lead by example during prayer, adoration and liturgical celebrations
• Attend school functions including all staff professional development sessions, parent teacher conferences, Christmas program and other school programs, eighth grade graduation, Catholic Schools Week Mass, school play and fundraising events
• Participate in activities in which the entire student body is involved
• Follow the daily schedule of classes and events. Teachers may be asked to take charge of combined classes or fill in by giving up preparation periods if no substitute can be obtained
• Prepare emergency substitute plans in case of unplanned absence
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school principal

Qualifications

Ideal applicants will:
• Be an active member of the Catholic Church
• Possess a lively faith life and joy for learning
• Have at least a B.A. in theology, Catholic studies, or related field
• Have experience teaching and/or working with students ages 12-15 in an educational setting
