Part-Time Facilities Team Member/Custodian

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:  To provide a clean, sanitary, safe and aesthetically pleasing environment at the Church of Peter.   All positions will support the Mission Statement:  St. Peters is here to bring the good news of the Gospel to all, so that every person can have a personal, life changing and life giving relationship with Jesus Christ.

Representative Responsibilities: To be present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities.  Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, seeking approval to put in more time if needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance, and generally ensuring all is ready and taken care of.

Essential Functions of the Position

General Cleaning

  1. Complete daily cleaning services on a scheduled basis. This includes vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms and cleaning kitchen areas.
  2. Trash and Recycling: Maintain the trash and recycling removal schedule for all areas of the facility and pick up debris around the buildings.  Pick up trash or recycling out-of-schedule as required.
  3. Use all equipment in a safe manner. Maintain equipment in a fully operational manner.
  4. Keep toilets fully stocked with paper and soap products. Keep an adequate stock of cleaning supplies in all areas to meet cleaning requirements.
  5. Assist with grounds maintenance. Perform lawn and grounds maintenance and snow removal, salt and sanding in season as assigned.
  6. As assigned wash windows, strip and wax floors, shampoo carpets and polish furniture.
  7. Room setups: when assigned set up rooms prior to scheduled meetings and events; including setup of tables, chairs, and required equipment.  When present, respond to additional meeting setup requirements requested by meeting participants.
  8. Security: while cleaning buildings, be aware of the presence of other people and make sure they are in the building for a valid reason.  Assure that buildings are locked and secured at the end of the day.  Take security actions required to maintain safety and order.

 Other Responsibilities 

  1. Attend staff meetings and “all staff” activities as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications:
• Experience working as a custodian.
• Demonstrated skills and interests in this type of work
• Must be able to work independently to accomplish tasks within allotted time
• Must be responsible in carrying out high quality work
• Must be able to adapt to flexible working schedule
• Ability to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check

Mental Demands:
• Able to follow instructions, work independently on routine and regular responsibilities to accomplish tasks within appropriate timelines.
• Possess the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Work well with others when appropriate while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude at all times, even during difficult times.
• Possess ability and desire to learn various office techniques and equipment operation.
• Knowledge of how to use cleaning materials and chemicals, understands principles for safe use of cleaning materials.
• Knowledge of safe operating and maintenance of cleaning machines, such as vacuums and floor scrubbers
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment

Physical Demands:
• Work 15-20 hours per week.
• Able to climb ladders and stairs
• Able to bend, reach overhead.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs
• Good working techniques in lifting, pushing, pulling and other motions are required
