Job Qualifications: JOB PURPOSE To assist elementary families with Faith Formation, Reconciliation and First Communion preparation in the home, supplemented by formational and fellowship activities at the parish for families and/or children. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees are held to a different and many times a higher standard of conduct. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Since this employee is responsible for the design and implementation of Faith Formation programs and Sacramental preparation it is required that the employee be a practicing Catholic in good standing. MENTAL DEMANDS • Knowledge and understanding of Catholic doctrine and Tradition. • Ability to communicate effectively with elementary-aged children and their parents. • Strong organizational skills. • Develop and maintain programs. • Project planning and implementing. • Ability to create parent/child lesson plans which incorporate a variety of learning experiences, such as guided discussion, arts & crafts, storytelling, etc. PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Be able to work long and flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. • Be able to stand, walk or sit through liturgies, trainings, rehearsals, events, etc. • Be able to carry and move heavy objects when necessary (stands, tables, chairs, books, etc.). REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES G.I.F.T. Family Program • Order curriculum materials for grades 1 through 4 Faith Formation. • Create homework schedule for families. • Plan & present monthly parent/child sessions. • Recruit, train, & maintain volunteers as needed. • Attend Faith Formation team meetings. • Assist in the planning and implementation of seasonal Faith Formation service projects. Reconciliation and First Communion • Design, schedule and implement preparation programs for candidates and parents of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist • Choose appropriate curriculum and design plans and materials for parent overviews and retreat days to prepare students for the celebration of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist • Collaborate with parish liturgical staff on designing celebrations of Rites, Reconciliation and First Eucharist • Invite and schedule priests for the Reconciliation Service • Assure accurate records are obtained and recorded for all recipients of First Eucharist. Vacation Bible School • Schedule dates & order materials for annual VBS. • Develop a core planning team of volunteers. • Meet regularly with team to plan details of VBS. • Recruit & train volunteers as needed. • Attend and facilitate VBS. Latino Faith Formation • Coordinate or order curriculum materials for all grades Latino Faith Formation. • Coordinate or create homework schedule for families. • Coordinate or schedule dates & order materials. • Coordinate or develop a core planning team of volunteers. • Coordinate or meet regularly with team to plan details of classes and events. • Recruit & train volunteers as needed. • Coordinate or attend and facilitate classes as needed. • Provide work direction for the Latino Faith Formation Assistant. • Familiarity with Spanish Language is a must, fluency a plus but not required. Children’s Events • Plan and implement special events for elementary-aged children and/or families • Recruit & train volunteers as needed General • Attendance and participation in staff meetings, staff activities appropriate to role as Elementary Faith Formation Coordinator, such as staff events, annual staff retreat day and staff celebrations. • Ensure that all volunteers have completed the necessary paperwork & (if required) VIRTUS training before working with children. • Maintain consistent communication with other Faith Formation Coordinators, Pastor, other staff, and parishioners. • Assist as needed with intergenerational events, parish events, etc. • Evaluate programs regularly. • Prepare the annual Elementary Faith Formation budget. • Share ministerial goals each year with the pastor and parish administrator. • Knowledge of basic computer skills and the willingness to learn new programs as needed. • Participate fully in the work of the staff for the good of the whole parish.
