Full-Time Director of Pastoral Care & Outreach
This position will build on 20 years of building parish and neighborhood community in a bi-lingual and multi-cultural manner, primarily through pastoral care and outreach.
A. Coordinate Pastoral Care for all parishioners (English and Spanish speaking).
- Implement pastoral care volunteer ministry.
- Pastoral care visits as appropriate.
- Coordination of pastoral care needs.
- Coordinate funeral lunches & engage with other pastoral team members for funeral planning.
- Work with Formation Director to coordinate initiative with visiting resident doctors.
B. Coordinate Outreach ministry.
- Respond to outreach needs as presented by parishioners or neighbors.
- Coordinate the Ascension Parish Food Shelf
- Coordinate outreach efforts such as Thanksgiving baskets, Toys for Tots, holiday deliveries during holidays, ACT Pass, etc.
- Staff liaison for Thanksgiving Dinner
C. Oversee and implement Children’s Church and/or new Sunday morning children’s ministry.
D. Oversee Quinceanera Ministry, including intake and team.
E. Oversee Wedding Ministry, including intakes, mentor couples, rehearsals.
F. Develop, along with parish staff and parishioners, opportunities to build parish community.
G. Engage in Volunteer Ministry, with specific responsibility in the areas of volunteer appreciation and volunteer coordination for parish events.
H. Develop and oversee parish New Member Ministry.
I. Assist in deepening relationships with sister parishes such as Holy Name of Jesus and Basilica of St. Mary.
J. Staff liaison for ministerial groups’ fundraisers.
K. Oversee parish functions such as calendar, financial accountability, etc. as they relate to Latino Ministry.
L. Cooperate with and support Ascension School.
M. Participate as an active member of the parish staff and other staff teams as appropriate and directed. This participation includes but is not limited to meetings and projects.
N. Support and assist volunteers as appropriate for your position.
O. Participate fully and responsibly in safety, security, HR, and finance guidelines, policies and procedures.
P. Actively engage, as appropriate for this position, with providing updates and materials for communication tools, such as the website.
Q. When interacting with students, parents, co-workers, parishioners, volunteers, and other community members, employees must conduct themselves in a responsible, professional manner consistent with Catholic teaching, inside and outside of work when engaging in any kind of communication (social media, email, blog, etc.).
Job Qualifications: 1. Bilingual Spanish and English (Spoken and Written) and bi-cultural. 2. Strong capacity for and willingness to engage with multi-cultural, multi-generational, varied life experiences and economic backgrounds. 3. Pastoral and leadership experience in parish ministry. 4. Education and formation through Archdiocesan program, parish program, secondary education. 5. Ability to invite and lead others in a collaborative style 6. Ability to recruit, train, support, and supervise lay leadership and involvement in a positive manner 7. Willingness and ability to work in a multi-cultural setting where a primary goal is to carefully build a cooperative parish that honors the formation of relationships and shared ministry 8. Ability to plan, organize and follow through with work in a timely manner 9. Strong inter-personal skills appropriate to ministry such as listening, compassion, and confidentiality 10. Ability to lead people in the process of forming relationships through fellowship, mutual invitation, scripture reflection and specific ministry tasks 11. Ability to positively and easily relate to people from various backgrounds and cultures 12. Desire and ability to vision and create programs and ministries 13. Able to set and follow goals, work independently and consistently
