Description

Direct and implement parish faith formation and enrichment programs for early childhood through adult per the Pastor's guidance and in accordance with the parish mission statement.

Faith Formation Program:

  • Direct a faith formation program for Saint John’s Church that supports a life-long deepening of the Catholic faith consistent with the Magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Recruit, develop and train catechists.
  • Provide Saint John’s Sacrament Registrar with the necessary information to accurately and timely record all Sacraments in our registers.
  • Purchase faith formation resources, textbooks and materials for the faith formation curriculum to ensure compliance with Archdiocesan religion standards.
  • Submit and code faith formation invoices.
  • Authorize expenditures within the Faith Formation budget; supervise the proper use of the parish credit card; provide timely submission.
  • Maintain faith formation supplies and equipment.
  • Manage and direct the technology needs of faith formation and recommend purchases in conjunction with an annual budget.
  • Work with Business Administrator to create and manage the budget for Youth Formation, Confirmation, Youth Ministry and Adult Ministry.
  • Ensure all volunteers are E3 compliant.

Youth Faith Formation:

  • Develop goals, objectives and strategies for a comprehensive faith formation program that serves Pre-K through 5th grade, including preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
  • Manage and implement program planning, registration, curriculum development, and order books and materials for grades 6-12.
  • Coordinate catechist training, and large-group events when appropriate.
  • Supervise Youth Faith Formation weekly classroom sessions.
  • Coordinate and attend summer Extreme Faith Camp and Winter Faith Camp.
  • Schedule, organize and supervise Summer Totus Tuus.
  • Ensure all volunteers are E3 compliant.

Middle School Youth Group:

  • Plan and organize weekly Junior High youth group gatherings.
  • Supervise Junior High Youth Group and ensure adult to student ratios are met.
  • Coordinate large-group events when appropriate.
  • Ensure all volunteers are E3 compliant.

Confirmation:

  • Plan and manage Confirmation process including registration, curriculum development and order books and materials.
  • Plan, facilitate and organize small groups, large-group gatherings and retreats in consultation with the Pastor.
  • Support and encourage Confirmation candidates, families, and sponsors.

OCIA / Adult Formation:

  • Plan and implement parish OCIA program, gather and record sacramental information.
  • At the Pastor’s direction, develop and implement a curriculum and catechetical plan for the parish.
  • Work with Pastor to plan, coordinate and promote faith formation liturgies.
  • Develop adult education opportunities and retreats for parishioners throughout the year that encourage parishioners to deepen their knowledge of their faith and fosters spiritual growth.
  • Work with Discipleship Sunday Committee to plan and communicate upcoming events.
  • Attend all Discipleship Sunday events.
  • Oversee adult small groups.
  • Oversee parish Catholic Watchman program.
  • Communicate upcoming events.

Other:

  • Organize and manage parish library.
  • Provide direction and support to the “Next Level” High School Ministry Coordinator.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Plan and implement two staff retreats each year.
  • Work with Pastor and staff to plan and participate in ongoing staff formation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain informal networking groups.

Qualifications

B.A. in Theology or Catholic Studies from a Catholic institution, M.A. preferred

Three years’ experience as a Director of Faith Formation

Possess extensive and current knowledge of the Roman Catholic doctrine

Knowledge of human and faith development and Archdiocesan religion standards

Possess valid driver’s license

A commitment to the mission of St. John the Evangelist Church

Pass Archdiocesan background check and complete VIRTUS

Enthusiastic leader with a positive attitude
