Part-Time Custodian – Weekend & Evening
Job Description
The following responsibilities are divided by our buildings on campus.
Church Building
- Vacuum carpeted areas upstairs and down – spot clean between the pews
- Vacuum Adoration Chapel when Adoration is suspended
- Empty all trash & recycling containers
- Must be done Saturday evening AND Sunday afternoon
- Clean, sanitize and supply all restrooms
- Wash / wipe all sinks and counter tops
- Hospitality Area, Saint Francis Room, Youth Room
- Remove marks of any origin on all walls
- Check candles and refill in the Marian Oratory
- Clean all windows and glass doors
- Wash / wipe sinks and counters in Hospitality Area
- Dust and remove all cobwebs (monthly)
- Remove all debris, bugs within light fixtures (monthly)
- Maintain baptismal font (as needed)
Activities Building
- Dry mop the entryways – spot clean with wet mop
- Dry mop Ambrose Hall – spot clean with wet mop
- Clean, sanitize and supply all restrooms
- Empty all trash & recycling containers
- Clean classrooms
- Wipe tables, counters and chalkboards, chalkboard trays, bookshelves
- Dry mop or vacuum the floors – spot clean, as needed
- Clean kitchen
- Wash / wipe all sinks and counters
- Clean oven
- Wet mop the floor
- Deep clean [monthly] with particular focus on the filters
Particular Responsibilities
- Remove any particulate matter from sidewalks, parking lots (i.e. tree branches, litter, etc.)
- Manicure grounds
- Weed-eating particular areas
- Maintain courtyard between Church Office and Friary
- Maintain the two outdoor garbage / recycling areas (near Church Office & Activity Building)
- Clean and empty all ashtrays
- Clean leaves / grass by all Church entryways
- Remove snow / ice on sidewalks of Church and Activities Building
- Secure the buildings as needed – lights, PA, doors
- Check restrooms for vacancy
- Assist with setup and take down for special events
- Be available for special cleaning projects – kitchen, carpet cleaning, strip & wax floors, window washing, painting projects, cleaning pews, etc.
Qualifications:
· Respect for the Catholic faith and the Franciscan Friars
· Have a high school diploma, post high school education and/or technical training preferred
· Have 3-5 years experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor
· Possess ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions
· Possess ability to make routine decisions independently
· Possess ability to sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity
· Possess ability to organize, plan, and initiate programs and people
Possess knowledge of cleaning and waxing compounds, heating and ventilating equipment, lawn mowers, snow blowers, lawn and plant fertilizers and insecticides, floor buffers and custodial equipment, safe use of all materials
· Possess basic knowledge and ability in plumbing, electricity, carpentry, painting and general repair work
· Possess thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures in lifting, pushing, pulling and other motions as required
· Possess knowledge of safe operation of a variety of hand tools and maintenance of small to medium machinery
· Have a valid, current Driver’s License
· Successfully complete the standard Archdiocese background check
· Successfully complete VIRTUS training
· Successfully complete physical exam
