Description

Purpose of Position: While working cooperatively with the Pastor, Parish Director, Director of Faith Formation, parish leaders, and other staff members, providing for an efficient, safe and effective pastoral environment in keeping with the mission of Pax Christi, the purpose of this position is to plan, and implement youth ministry and catechesis for the youth of Pax Christi in grades 6-12, as an integral part of the overall catechetical/formational plan for the entire parish.  This position may be full time or part time  Hours to be determined based on Faith Formation and Youth Ministry needs.

Representative Responsibilities:

In coordination with the Director of Faith Formation, plan and implement a Middle School and High School  Faith Formation program.

  • Plan, schedule, and facilitate (as needed) all program gatherings.
  • Grow and expand the curriculum based on current events in the church and the needs of the youth.
  • Develop a shared ministry team by recruiting catechists, youth leaders, and other volunteers who will be with youth, providing ongoing communication, support, training, assessment, and appreciation.
  • With assistance from the Faith Formation administrative staff, coordinate and manage the registration process and enrollment, ensuring all are registered and that lists, and enrollment are kept-up-to date.
  • Collaborate with other parish ministries to provide quality experiences of service, both in the parish as well as in the community, for the youth.
  • Responsible for Confirmation program administration.
  • Plan, and facilitate a Confirmation retreat experience for program participants.
  • In collaboration with the Archdiocese, coordinate the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation annually, including the updating of sacramental records.
  • Collaboration with administrative staff to ensure that catechists have completed the Essential Three: background checks, VIRTUS training, and signed Code of Conduct for all who work with youth.
  • Provide ongoing communications for families via Flocknote.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Director, develop appropriate social media communications for families and youth related to the program and the Catholic faith.

In coordination with the Director of Faith Formation and Director of Community Life, assist as needed for ongoing spiritual formation for post-Confirmation youth. This may include:

  • Social Events
  • Retreat Experiences
  • Service Outings
  • Prayer Experiences
  • Bible Study Groups
  • Small groups

In coordination with the Director of Faith Formation,  plan summer youth discipleship and spiritual development programs.

This may include:

  • Mission Trips
  • Service Outings
  • Summer Camps
  • Periodic Youth Gatherings

In coordination with the Director of Faith Formation this includes:

  • Making all logistical arrangements and ensuring they are done in a timely manner (required paperwork including authorization and release forms, reservations, rentals, payments etc.) for all activities.
  • Recruiting youth and chaperones to the program.
  • Developing theological reflection experience for the youth in attendance.

In coordination with the Director of Faith Formation and the Pastoral Care Team, provide appropriate pastoral outreach to teens and their families.

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for families facing pastoral concerns.
  • Provide resources or connect families to appropriate agencies in situations that go beyond pastoral care, i.e. mental health issues, etc.

Working with the Director of Faith Formation and the Faith Formation Team:

  • Determine the Faith Formation yearly calendar.
  • Serve as a resource to the Faith Formation Council and attend their meeting as needed.
  • Plan and design Faith Formation team communications for youth and/or parents.
  • Design programming for families that includes those who do not register for offerings.
  • Provide online resources for catechesis and formation; research and provide links to helpful websites for catechesis and formation.
  • Plan, submit, and manage portion of the yearly Youth Faith Formation budget.

Be present and prepared for work, on time, for all scheduled hours and events. Participate in staff activities appropriate to one’s role, including but not limited to staff meetings, shared ministry celebrations staff events such as staff retreat days, etc.; and engage in self-development activities, such as personal reading, networking (including attendance at Youth Ministers’ Network meetings as needed), and continuing education as appropriate to one’s role.

Other responsibilities will be included as needed by the employee and approved and/or assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in theology/education or a related field. Additional education and certificates preferred.

Experience:

Experience working with youth preferred, especially in a parish setting.

Background Check:

Successful completion of background check is required.

  • Possess organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well and collaborate with other staff members, volunteers, and parents as well as youth.
  • Be an active Catholic, mature in faith, with knowledge of, and appreciation for, Catholic traditions, values, liturgies and sacraments.

Mental and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to make decisions and conduct work without supervision.
  • Capacity to sustain a positive work environment supportive of volunteers and participants.
  • Adaptability to varying tasks, responsibilities, personality styles, and time requirements.
  • Strong service orientation in support of ministry and community objectives.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
