Description

The Special Events Sacristan prepares and oversees the articles and elements required for special Archdiocesan liturgies so that all the members of the worshipping community can take their full, conscious and active part in the liturgical celebration.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares the altar and sanctuary, laying out linens, sacramental wine, vestments, special seating, and worship aides.
  • Maintains liturgical linens and vestments including storing and ironing if needed.
  • Prepares liturgical materials such as lectionary, missal, or other ritual books as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a sacristan required.
  • Possess a detailed understanding of the Order of the Mass and the needs of each liturgical ministry.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to sensitively give feedback and provides guidance to volunteer liturgical ministers.
  • Understanding of and respect for the Catholic Faith, its rituals, liturgical calendar, and practices required.
  • Ability to pivot and reprioritize.
  • Ability to work calmly in stressful situations and handle last minute changes with graciousness.
  • Capable of providing positive witness to the Christian life.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and safe environment training.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Walk long distances.
  • Relocate furniture and boxes with the related ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
