 Job Purpose

 The purpose of this position is to provide excellent support for overall medical operations, including limited ultrasound. The Registered Nurse Sonographer cares for and treats clients in the Center, as directed by the Medical Director’s Standing Orders, following the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics. We are looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) interested in sonography. We will train you in limited obstetric ultrasound post hiring; the only medical requirement necessary for you to apply is a current RN license in Minnesota. New grads welcome.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Standards

  • Follows all medical policies and procedures. Strive to improve medical services offered
  • Assist Nurse Manager with monitoring of staff competencies for all medical procedures that involve client care (i.e. pregnancy test, ultrasound, STI testing)
  • Maintain medical documentation – Complete all applicable logs per medical policies and procedures

Client Care

  • Provide limited obstetric ultrasound scans and pregnancy-related education, based on direction from standing orders from the Medical Director and on AWHONN guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain client’s medical records
  • Answer medical questions and provide requested education to clients and staff
  • Follow-up on referrals made for clients whose care goes beyond our scope of services
  • Participate in the development and modification of the organization's medical programs/resources
  • Communicate results and provide education to clients with both positive and negative STI results
  • Prescribe STI treatment and administer intramuscular injections per standing orders.
  • Administer/oversee pregnancy tests and STI tests

Professional Development

  • Participate in medical CEU’s pertinent to the Center’s practices that meet State CME Licensing requirements
  • Attend/view monthly Staff Meetings
  • Attend quarterly Medical Staff Meetings
  • Complete Annual Staff Trainings and Workshops
  • Maintain BLS certification
  • Attend Medical Conferences that offer professional training pertinent to the Center’s practices

Team Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Client Services and Executive Director.
  • Participate in policy and procedure evaluations, as well as client services management.
  • Support fundraising and marketing initiatives as directed.
  • Establish relationships with social service agencies and pro-life organizations.
  • Maintain respectful and collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and board members.

Confidentiality and Compliance

  • Uphold strict confidentiality in all matters, except where disclosure is required by law.
  • Adhere to the Wakota Employee Handbook, policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with affiliate policies, including those of Elevate Life and the Guiding Star Project.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current MN licensure

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to act independently and seek consultation when needed
  • Ability to engage confidentially in a non-judgmental way with all client demographics and situations
  • Outstanding communication skills

Additional Requirements

  • Commitment to Guiding Star Wakota’s values and pro-life mission.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Prior experience in a pregnancy help center is an advantage.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required.

Training (provided by Guiding Star Wakota):

  • Limited Obstetric Ultrasound Training and Certification
  • Orientation to Guiding Star Wakota and on-the-job training
  • Elevate Life 2-day training or virtual training through Elevate Life platform
  • Potential opportunity to attend NIFLA national conference

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to work a standard schedule of 16-20 hours per week with potential to add hours in the future.
  • Capacity to perform tasks requiring physical activity, such as lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.

Starting Range of Position

$27.00 per hour
