Description
Do you really enjoy helping to form young children in faith and the love of Jesus in a preschool setting? Would you enjoy helping our youngest children develop social skills, independence, and confidence through hands-on learning experiences?
The Church of the Guardian Angels is seeking a caring, dependable, and faith-filled Preschool Teacher to join our growing early childhood program in a new preschool – Guardian Angels Catholic Preschool, opening in autumn of 2025. The Preschool Teacher, together with a Lead Teacher, plays a vital role in fostering a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and faith-based learning environment that supports each child’s spiritual, social, emotional, and academic growth.
This position works in collaboration with the Lead Preschool Teacher and reports directly to Father Tony VanderLoop, Pastor, and works closely with parish leadership to uphold the mission of The Church of the Guardian Angels: to live and share the Gospel through worship, education, and service.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities that support the development of the whole child.
- Help maintain a warm, safe, and engaging classroom that reflects both Catholic values and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Support children with transitions, routines, meals/snacks, and toileting needs as required.
Faith-Based Environment
- Model and support the integration of Catholic values, daily prayer, and Christian kindness within the classroom.
- Assist with faith-based activities, seasonal celebrations, and participation in preschool and parish events.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, families, and coworkers.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings and professional development.
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and leadership team to support classroom needs, curriculum goals, and student growth.
Health & Safety / Licensing
- Ensure classroom activities meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 licensing standards at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of classroom materials and supplies.
- Follow proper health and safety procedures, including child supervision, sanitation practices, and emergency preparedness.
Qualifications
Required
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must meet Minnesota DHS Assistant Teacher qualifications, including:
- High school diploma or GED, and 2,080 hours of experience working with children in a licensed child care setting.
- Or, completion of at least 12 quarter credits (8 semester credits) in early childhood education or child development.
- Or, other qualifying combination as outlined in DHS Rule 9503.0033.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Completion of all required DHS training prior to start date.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Catholic teachings and values, and a willingness to support the Catholic identity of the program.
- Practicing Catholic preferred or openness to working in a faith-based environment.
Schedule & Compensation
- This is a full-time, year-round position, depending somewhat on program needs and applicant availability.
- Competitive hourly wage based on qualifications and experience.
