Description
*Classroom
- Assist as directed with the daily preparation of the classroom and supplies for the daily activities.
- Assist as directed with the daily activities and cleaning responsibilities to maintain a clean and orderly classroom
- Participate with the children in classroom activities, assisting the children, as necessary, with classroom expectations, and individual attention to a child who has a specific individual need.
*Professional Growth
- Attend scheduled preschool staff meetings
- Attend all program in-services and other professional seminars to acquire continuing education hours as required for licensing.
- CPR and First Aid certification as required for Licensing
- Participate in evaluations with the Director
- Follow the program guidelines as detailed in the Handbook.
- Maintain and improve work knowledge and skills
- Maintain confidentiality of all acquired information
- Meet all communication requirements, including interpersonal skills with parents, students and staff. This includes keeping superiors and appropriate others informed.
- Attend all required school functions, including:
- Parent Orientation
- Fallfest
- Catholic Schools Week Mass
- Wines to Wishes
- Family Fun Night
- Spring Program/Graduation
Qualifications
This position requires appropriate credentials for Assistant Teacher through the MN Department of Human Services. This person is to be the model that demonstrates the kind of values, attitudes, expectations, beliefs and choices that make the program exceptional.
This position is subject to an acceptable background check in accordance with the policies of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church as well as the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Licensing Division.
Mental Demands:
- Demonstrates competence in instruction at the Early Childhood level
- Demonstrates good classroom management techniques
- Knowledge and support of St. John’s Preschool mission and goals
- Communicate well with students, parents and co-workers
- Maintain confidentiality of all acquired information
- Show patience, sincerity, strong faith and love of children
Physical Demands:
- Ability to interact with children at their physical level, may include stooping and sitting on the floor
- Lift and move using proper techniques, up to 15 pounds of supplies
- Coordination and dexterity for art projects
