Description

The Teacher & Athletic Director is an educational and spiritual leader who encourages excellence in all students. Teachers are responsible for the development and implementation of curricular goals and objectives to fulfill desired student learning outcomes in accordance with prescribed and selected academic standards. This position is also responsible for teaching, mentoring, and modeling the Catholic faith.
As Athletic Director, the employee will coordinate the school’s athletic program, ensuring it aligns with Catholic values and fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
As Physical Education & Health Teacher, the employee delivers engaging, standards-based PE instruction for grades K–8 and health education for grades 6–8, promoting lifelong wellness and physical fitness.

Instructional Practices

  • Plans and implements Physical Education curriculum for K–8 including teamwork, soccer, floor hockey, tumbling, par core, fitness exercises, dance, paddle skills, pickleball/badminton, basketball, and other activities.
  • Teaches 6th–8th grade Health curriculum, integrating Catholic values on topics such as wellness, nutrition, and personal decision-making.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet varying ability levels and learning styles.
  • Uses multiple methods to assess student learning and inform instruction.
  • Ensures a safe environment by teaching proper techniques, rules, and safety protocols in all activities.
  • Cooperate with other teachers, specialists, local district special education personnel, counselors, administrators, etc. to assist in identifying and responding to the academic and/or learning needs of students.

Learning Environment

  • Promotes student engagement and positive behavior in the gym and classroom.
  • Maintains and organizes gymnasium space and equipment.
  • Creates an environment of respect, fairness, and safety, integrating Christian values throughout instruction.
  • Establishes appropriate classroom procedures and routines that maintain order in a fair and just manner, and maintains these procedures and routines throughout the year.
  • Actively supervise students in your charge.

Planning and Preparation

  • Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement stated goals and objectives, and by incorporating school and diocesan curriculum standards in lesson plans.
  • Develops curriculum that adheres to appropriate, delineated standards, and is vertically aligned to ensure that every student successfully completes a rigorous and coherent sequence of academic courses based on the standards and rooted in Catholic values.
  • Develops and uses effective methods of evaluation that are directly related to curriculum objectives and to concepts and skills taught; consistently and effectively evaluates student progress.

Dedication and Commitment

  • Is present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance, and generally ensuring all is ready and taken care of.
  • Attends any meetings/programs required by parish, school, Office of Catholic Schools, and/or Archdiocese.
  • Commits additional time to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that provide opportunities outside the classroom for students to further identify and develop their gifts and talents.
  • Engages in high quality professional development, including religious formation, and is accountable for implementation that supports student learning.
  • Assists with school events such as Field Day and wellness programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information, displays sound judgment in dress and general behavior.

Cooperative Teamwork

  • Helps create a productive environment where there is harmony, good morale, and cooperative teamwork.
  • Monitors self-productivity and takes corrective action as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other teachers and administration to develop, implement and continuously improve the effectiveness of the curriculum, instruction and assessment to result in high levels of student achievement.
  • In the event that no substitute can be found, fills in by giving up preparation periods.
  • Actively supervises students during assigned supervision responsibilities, and is punctual to assigned duties.

Parental and Community Relationships

  • Maintains consistent, professional, appropriate, and confidential communication with parent/guardian regarding student progress.
  • Utilizes the electronic grade book to maintain accurate, complete, and correct records communicated in a timely manner.
  • Regularly checks email and voicemail, and responds to parent communications in a timely manner; typically within 24 hours.
  • Conducts parent-teacher conferences as scheduled throughout the school year.
  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the students, staff, and families at St. Stephen’s.

Athletic Director Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with athletic coaches regarding practice schedules, game plans, equipment needs, and adherence to school policies.
  • Be present at on-site athletic events to support coaches, athletes, and families.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with other schools’ Athletic Directors to coordinate game schedules, league rules, and tournament participation.
  • Oversee registration processes for sports programs and ensure compliance with league requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff regarding athletic events, expectations, and policies.
  • Promote a positive culture of sportsmanship and respect that reflects the Catholic mission of St. Stephen’s Catholic School.
  • Manage inventory and budget of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Address concerns related to athletic programming and maintain proper safety protocols.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Current MN Teaching Licensure Preferred
  • For teachers of religion, be an active, participating Catholic and demonstrate understanding and acceptance of Catholic doctrine. For teachers that do not teach religion, be willing to support and uphold the teaching of the Catholic faith.
  • Experience and/or training in teaching
  • Demonstrates ability to:
    • effectively and collegially work with others
    • make decisions
    • work without supervision
    • learn and implement new educational strategies
    • manage and maintain a classroom of students effectively
    • keep Principal and others appropriately informed
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and weekends for athletic events
  • Pass required background check
  • Complete VIRTUS/Essential 3 training
