Description
The organ accompanist plays an invaluable role in the liturgy, supporting both the congregation and the choir. Under the guidance of the Director of Sacred Music, he or she provides skilled and dependable musical accompaniment both during the liturgy and during rehearsals. The Church is adamant about the importance of music during the Mass, thus highlighting the dignity of the accompanist’s role. “A liturgical celebration can have no more solemn or pleasing feature than the whole assembly’s expressing its faith and devotion in song” (Musicam Sacram, 16). The organ accompanist is often the leader of this expression. By means of his or her understanding of the liturgy and musical talent, a more "solemn” and "pleasing” worship of God can be experienced each Sunday.
