Supervisor: Maintenance, Security, and Projects Manager
Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt
Hours Schedule: 16 - 20 hours per week
PURPOSE OF POSITION
This maintenance position plays a vital role in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment of the Basilica of Saint Mary. As an active parish community, as well as a Cathedral and registered historic landmark, it is crucial that all facilities and grounds are well maintained at all times.
SCOPE OF POSITION
Reports to Security & Maintenance Manager with a weekly schedule working Sunday – Wednesdays (Thursday – Saturday off). Hours TBD, but will be during the day with evenings as needed.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR ACTIVITES
- Be ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours.
- Work with maintenance team to complete scheduled cleaning activities.
- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies as directed.
- Secures areas with spills/debris until cleanup can be completed.
- Keep current on Catholic Mutual required videos.
- Assist with set-ups for events/ activities. Check the daily set-up board located in the Rectory – for all daily setups for meetings in the Undercroft and other buildings. Assist with any large set-ups as directed by either the Safety & Security Manager or Onsite Manager. Assist in decorating church for Holy Days and Holidays.
- Set up After Mass Hospitality for the Masses / clean up after hospitality when applicable.
- Serve as a member of the Basilica Safety and Security Team. Assist as needed prior to the evening arrival of the Basilica’s uniformed security officers. Keep current with campus security policies and procedures.
- Complete additional work as asked by supervisor.
Non-Exempt: Be ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours and accept additional responsibilities identified (as needed) by your supervisor.
Compensation and Benefits
The wage range for this position is $20 - $21 per hour. This part-time position will be eligible for Sick and Safe Leave, vacation time, floating holiday, 403b & 403b matching up to 3%.
Designation of Essential Functions
Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees/volunteers must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. However, as a parish community rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church, employees/volunteers are expected to be knowledgeable of core tenets and respectful of the mission, purpose, and teachings of the Catholic faith.

Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Three years’ experience in building maintenance and custodial duties
- Demonstrated ability to work independently handling a variety of functions.
- Ability to clean a variety of floor surfaces and operate a variety of floor care machinery.
- Boilers Operator’s License for 300 HP boiler preferred (C – Class 1 license)
- Self-motivated, and must be able to interact with other staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- CPR / AED Certified / or willing to get certified upon hire.
Physical Demands
- Walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and speech are requirements in this position.
- Incumbent or applicant will exert a force of 100 lbs. + occasionally.
- Operating and moving cleaning equipment.
- Doing snow removal and associated equipment use.
- Receiving and distributing deliveries.
- Moving office furniture.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- This position also includes repetitive motions incurred from the general cleaning.
- Incumbent or applicant must possess clarity of vision and recognize spatial relationships.
- Be present, ready to work and on time as scheduled.
