Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To provide instructional classes in all assigned subjects/grade levels in accordance with the school/parish mission statement, philosophy, MNSAA standards, state standards, handbooks, curriculums, and directions established by the principal and pastor.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment in and by the Catholic Church substantially differs from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese such that it can embarrass the church or give rise to scandal.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities listed below are presentative of the position and are not all-inclusive. They are considered essential for the successful completion of this position.
- Curriculum, Instruction and faith formation
- *Be responsible for the instruction of assigned classes in the locations and during the times designated.
- *Instruct students utilizing the designated curriculums and provided lesson plans ore teacher outlines for all subject areas in which you are substitute teaching for.
- *Through instruction and action, strive to implement the philosophical goals and objectives developed for Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School.
- Use a variety of educational strategies and techniques to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom.
- *Respect the Catholic Faith while substitute teaching at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School.
- *Be a credible witness to the Catholic faith.
- Supervision & Classroom Management
- *Upon starting the day check in with the office and review with the office staff or other teachers all plans, duties, and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- *Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Remains in the assigned classroom (when students are present) until all students have been dismissed for the day.
- *Assume responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom and surrounding areas and informs a full-time teacher/principal or office staff of any needed assistance in discipline or classroom management.
- *Teach the outlined lesson(s) and maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned as fully as possible.
- *Checks out with office staff before leaving at the end of the day.
- *Make sure students are properly supervised during school, student arrival and departure, and school sponsored functions as assigned or needed.
- *Maintain a classroom environment which is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental age and interests of the students.
- *If hired for a long-term substitute (more than 2 weeks) maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, school policy and/or administrative requirements though our student information system and other means.
- Other Duties
- *Be a positive advocate of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church & School.
- *Understand the Essential 3 requirements to ensure the policies are followed in regard to activities and programs under your direction.
- *To be present where needed, ready to work for all scheduled hours and classes and as needed to meet responsibilities. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, putting in more time when needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance and generally ensuring that all instruction of children is taken care of in a professional and responsible manner.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree preferred.
- Current State of Minnesota Teaching License preferred– Have and maintain appropriate presentation credentials.
- Must complete the required three essential pieces of training required by the archdiocese upon hire.
- Competence in age-appropriate instructional methods and knowledge of subject matter being taught.
- Must have proficiency in technology skills as the position demands
- Able to operate a computer, printer, and other technology to provide for effective student learning.
- Ability to make decisions.
- Ability to work without supervision
- Ability to learn and implement new educational strategies.
- Ability to manage and maintain a classroom of students effectively
- Ability to take direction from the principal
