Description

Dates:  2025-26 School Year (Tentative: October 27, 2025 – February 6, 2026)

Status:  Exempt

Reports to: Principal

Compensation: $160/day

Expected Hours: 7am-3pm, M-F Occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

 

 

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with full time teacher to establish lesson plans, parent communications, and communications with full-time teacher
  • Forming in students a strong foundation in Christ with an education grounded in the Catholic Tradition
  • Establishing and enforcing school’s behavioral expectations for students in the classroom
  • Preparing lessons, units and projects, in collaboration with the fulltime teacher, to complete learning objectives
  • Establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units and projects, in collaboration with the fulltime teacher
  • Creating, assigning and grading various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays and projects
  • Working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention
  • Tracking and evaluating student academic progress
  • Leading parent-teacher meetings, in collaboration with full-time teacher, who may or may not participate
  • Maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers and supervisors
  • Creating a nurturing and encouraging classroom environment
  • Communicating regularly with parents, at least weekly
  • Helping students improve study methods and habits
  • Evaluate students’ progress in accordance with the school’s assessment philosophy
  • Other duties as assigned by the school administration

 

Fifth Grade Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Design engaging, challenging learning experiences that invite students to apply knowledge in thoughtful, creative, and purposeful ways.
  • Encourage deeper reasoning, meaningful discourse, and respectful debate — nurturing a classroom culture where ideas are explored with curiosity and care.
  • Foster independence, responsibility, and initiative, guiding students as they begin to take more ownership of their learning and contributions to the community.
  • Recognize and support each child’s natural religious sense as it matures — their growing desire to understand God, wrestle with complex truths, and live with purpose.
  • Create space for students to explore moral and spiritual questions through sacred stories, silence, service, and personal reflection, always honoring their individual journeys.
  • Balance academic rigor with relational warmth — ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge never comes at the expense of joy, belonging, or wonder.
  • Empower students to see themselves as both learners and leaders — capable of using their gifts to serve others, seek truth, and shape the world with wisdom and compassion.

Qualifications

  • Be a practicing Catholic and/or willing to uphold the teachings of the Catholic faith
  • Teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop lesson plans and successfully instruct students in theories, methods and tasks as indicated in the Minnesota State Academic Standards
  • Capacity to effectively communicate with others and clearly express complex ideas
  • Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to students’ various learning needs
  • Knowledge of appropriate learning psychology, styles, and strategies
  • Strong public speaking and oral presentation skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Advanced technology skills to track student attendance and grades and present creative lessons
  • Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
  • General knowledge of several subjects and advanced knowledge in subject area hired to teach
  • Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
  • Flexibility and critical-thinking skills
  • Patience and grace
  • Ability to meet physical demands necessary to maintain a safe and productive learning environment
  • Ongoing compliance with the Archdiocesan Essential 3 requirements as they relate to the safety of children and vulnerable adults
  • Leadership skills and patience for working with students of all ages
