Description

Ensure our Parish facilities and grounds are clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming. Help provide hospitality and safety in the parish. Assist guests as appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be present where needed, ready to work, and on time for all scheduled hours as needed to meet requirements.
  • Observe campus facilities to keep parish buildings and grounds safe and operational. Resolve or report any items that may need repair.
  • Complete any work requests as directed by the supervisor.
  • Work with volunteers in building and grounds projects as directed by the Parish Administrator.
  • Serve as a member of the Parish staff team, working collaboratively to implement the mission of the church and to support the vision of the pastor.
  • Assist with cleaning and custodial responsibilities as requested by the supervisor.
  • Ensure appropriate confidentiality in all matters relating to parish business.
  • Maintain effective, professional standards of communication (this includes written, verbal, internet, and other communication.)
  • Maintain professional standards of behavior in the use of parish-paid work time, use of parish facilities and equipment.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • *MANAGE FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE:
    • Ensure preventative maintenance and good operating order of the parish facilities, mechanical and electrical systems and structures.
    • Have knowledge of the effective operation of equipment and the safe use of all materials and equipment. Ensure compliance with proper labeling and usage protocols (OSHA) / MSDS.
    • Inspect areas on a regular basis (e.g., weekly walk-through) to ensure that our facilities are in good order.
    • Order maintenance supplies and parts, check in ordered cleaning supplies and disposable items when they arrive. Monitor inventory to ensure security, store safely, and prevent theft.
    • Special event set-up, provide for the set-up of various rooms and/or grounds as required for special events on the parish grounds and/or within the buildings.
    • Efficiently organize and keep maintained and clean tools, facilities and grounds equipment, repair and maintenance materials. Additionally, custodial, maintenance locations including closets, storage and facilities offices.
  • *MANAGE AND OVERSEE FACILITIES MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS:
    • Be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all parish equipment.
    • Utilize preventive maintenance.
    • Personally perform repairs when possible under the direction of the Parish Administrator.
    • Consult with the Parish Administrator to obtain outside help for major breakdowns.
  • *MANAGE AND OVERSEE GROUNDS MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS:
    • Spring & Summer & Fall
      • Pick up branches/twigs from lawn area and landscape as needed
      • Maintain rain gutters & ensure water runs away from buildings
      • Store and winterize all tools/equipment properly
    • Winter – especially prior to Mass, Faith Formation classes and other instances where the church and facilities will be used
      • Shovel/snow blow snow as needed
      • Shovel sidewalks as needed
      • Shovel/broom snow off main entry areas as needed
      • Clean snow off roof edges as needed
      • Use ice preventer on main entry areas & sidewalks as needed
    • Year-round
      • Pick up litter on grounds as needed (year-round)
      • Maintain equipment / machinery as needed:
        • Change oil in lawnmowers
        • Sharpen lawnmower blades
        • Clean / change filters as needed
        • Maintain proper air pressure in tires
      • *ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
        • Attend meetings with the Parish Administrator and department personnel as requested.
        • Work with other ministerial and support staff on Parish events and activities as necessary and as time allows.
  • *PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Remain current on parish policies and procedures through reading materials and attending workshops as requested.
    • Remain current on all cleaning, maintenance, OSHA and environmental requirements and updates.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the pastor or Parish Administrator or Pastor.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years experience in facilities maintenance and repairs including HVAC, plumbing, building safety and grounds.
  • Excellent phone communication abilities and ability to relay messages accurately. Ability to keep supervisors and others informed appropriately.
  • Ability to give careful and accurate attention to detail.
  • Ability use computers and other technology to research products, repair techniques, ordering, record keeping, inventory management, etc.
  • Demonstrated skills and interests in this type of work.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check, pre-employment physical.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to stand, sit, bend, kneel and walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week.
  • Able to physically and emotionally handle emergency response needs.
  • Lift and move up to 75-100 pounds using proper techniques (ex. tables, desks, etc.)
  • Able to climb stairs, walk and crawl in tight spaces. Ability to climb on roof.
  • Able to use lifts and scaffolding at heights of 35 to 45 feet.
