Description
St. Andrew Catholic Church (Elk River, MN) is seeking a faithful, collaborative, and mission-driven Director of Religious Education (DRE) to provide leadership and oversight of our youth, family, and adult faith formation programs. This full-time, exempt position plays a vital role in building the Kingdom of God here and now through the witness of a lived faith. The DRE is responsible for the leadership, management, and development of parish faith formation programs, including youth and family faith formation, youth ministry, and the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) and Children. The DRE is supervised by the Parish Administrator and works in close collaboration with the Pastor, parish staff, catechists, and volunteers. This is a full-time position, including evenings and weekends as programs require.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for youth faith formation and sacramental preparation programs (First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation).
- Recruit, train, support, and supervise catechists and volunteers in accordance with diocesan and parish guidelines.
- Select, implement, and regularly evaluate age-appropriate catechetical curriculum.
- Oversee youth programs such as Vacation Bible School, Totus Tuus, youth retreats, camps, and post-Confirmation faith growth opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Foster engagement and evangelization of youth and families who are not participating in parish programs.
- Communicate regularly with parents, supporting their role as primary educators of their children in the faith.
- Lead and coordinate adult and family faith formation opportunities. Oversee the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA), including recruiting and supporting volunteer leaders.
- In collaboration with the Pastor, organize speakers, retreats, and spiritual enrichment opportunities.
- Supervise and provide direction to faith formation staff and volunteers.
- Prepare and manage the annual religious education budget.
Qualifications
- A practicing Roman Catholic who lives and models the teachings, faith, and morals of the Catholic Church.
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in parish catechetical ministry; supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency with technology and willingness to learn new systems.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
