JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for strategically leading the marketing and communication of the value proposition, vision, and mission of The Saint Paul  Seminary (SPS) to both external and internal constituents. This institution-wide effort advances our mission by supporting the work of partner areas within SPS, including the rector’s office, institutional advancement, recruiting and retention of lay students, and diaconate and clergy formation programs. The Director also collaborates with the Recruitment and Student Services Coordinator regarding that role’s efforts in recruiting lay students. The Director reports to the Chief of Staff of SPS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads a team of direct reports and cross-functional roles to strategize, plan, execute and evaluate multilateral organizational communications for both external and internal audiences.
    • Supervises Marketing and Communications team, including the Digital Marketing Strategist and the Creative Content Specialist.
    • Supports the efforts of the Institutional Advancement team at each stage of the donor journey, from awareness building to engagement to solicitation to stewardship.
    • Manages the writing/editing, design and production of the quarterly Epistle magazine.
    • Oversees The Saint Paul Seminary website and all social media channels.
    • Oversees creation of marketing materials, including digital outreach, for all SPS programming.
    • Conducts regular analysis of marketing activities for strategic, data-driven decision making that helps increase revenue generation and return on investment.
    • Manages all outside vendors, including photographers, graphic designers, printers and videographers.
    • Oversees the seminary’s internal communications strategy, ensuring organizational alignment around the seminar’s vision, mission and core values.
  • In collaboration with program leads, oversees the recruitment marketing strategy for SPS programs, including lay formation, ongoing clergy formation, and diaconate formation.
  • Serves as the seminary’s chief brand steward, collaborating with internal partners to define and communicate value propositions, positioning, and messaging.
  • Oversees marketing strategy for recruitment and retention of diocesan bishops and directors of vocations in support of the rector and his chief of staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field, and at least seven years of professional experience in a communications and/or marketing-related position.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
